My son was actually under weight for his age at 5. He broke his elbow and his wrist 3 months before he turned 6. He had to have surgery to repair it. He then started gaining weight. He gained 85lbs in two years. He slowed down for a while but has now started gaining again. He is 9 years old and weighs 142lbs. He is very strong and does have muscle but I still wonder if something happened to him when he broke his elbow and wrist. Most of the weight he has gained has been in his stomach but he has put weight on else where. They have checked his thyroid and his sugar a couple of years ago and it was fine. I just wish I could find a doctor that would pursue it because in the beginning his eating habits didn't change and he was gaining. He does it more now but not to the extreme that he is gaining. The doctors just tell me to limit his food and his milk intake to low fat. That hasn't helped. Is there any test that can be done to check to see if his metabolism was altered when he was injured?
