Hi,
I started seeing a new psychiatrist and she also recommended Zoloft, at the very lowest dose to start out. I am not opposed to it at all either at this point because my anxiety and depression have been going on way too long at this point and it is not normal. I have never tried an SSRI or anti-depressant but I have heard that initially, when you start them - the first few weeks can be tough with increased anxiety, depression, feeling ill, and other side effects and then after those initial few weeks things will improve gradually and the side effects go away after the first week or two if the medication is right for you. I completely understand what you mean about feeling fragile - I feel the exact same way and am hesitant to try it but I think I might try it anyway because it might be the solution for now and I know I can't live like this for months or years.

Also, I didn't mean to scare anyone with the side effects when first starting an SSRI - this does not happen to everyone, and most people only experience very mild side effects if any.

Hi Everyone,

SO today I received the results of my DUTCH sex hormone test which is hormones evaluated through urine. Back story: I went off birth control in February, three days later felt like I was losing my mind, had anxiety everyday. Then went on Cipralex, after being on it for a two months, I decided to go off of it because I realized that my birth control might be the cause of these problems. I then experienced anxiety and depression as well as intrusive thoughts. My blood work for hormones came back normal, I still didn't believe I so I went to a natural path. I told her what was happening, ive had anxiety, racing thoughts, numb/sweaty hands and feet, insomnia, brain fog, headaches, intrusive thoughts, depression, jitternous inside my body, heart palps, weird boob aches, periods that were not normal cycle, dizziness and I am sure im missing some symptoms.

My urine test revealed that I have Post Menopausal hormone levels......I am 21 years old.

Progesterone:

My b-pregnanediol is 178---- the range is 600-2000 (AKA WAY under)

My a-Pregnanediol is 80---- the range is 200-740 (once again WAY under)

Estrogen:

Estrone is 10.5--- range is 12-26 (Under)

Estradiol is 1.48-- range is 1.8-4.5 (Under)

ALSO.... My androsterone (testosterone) is sky high at 2459 when it should be between 200 and 1650... (My face is a mess with acne).

I will be starting bioidentical hormones this week to bring my levels up!! Hopefully that helps. I will further update everyone :)

Wow, you are REALLY lucky to have found a doctor to test this for you...where I'm from, they all look at me like I'm funny when I ask for any sort for hormone testing. Are you from the US?

I’m from Canada ! My actual doctor wouldn’t test my urine for it but I found a natural path who does it. It cost me about 300 dollars canadian for it ! I wonder if you could order it online or something? Have you been to a natural path ?

Hey Anna,
Hey Anna you will have to let me know how the Zoloft works for you. I want to go see a psychiatrist for the same thing, but my insurance doesn’t kick in until August and I can’t afford to pay what it costs without insurance. I have been taking Benadryl lately it helps calm my nerves for the time being. I hope you find some relief with Zoloft.

Hi guys!!! Help!!! I am currently off the pill for about two months. i already had my first normal period on the second month and the anxiety symptoms (chest tightness, feeling of impending doom) worsened! Has anyone felt this right after their first normal period?

Ohh okay! I have been to see an "integrative" medical doctor, I'm not sure if that is the same as a natural path but she didn't test me for hormones - just other issues like Lyme disease, connective tissue diseases (lupus, etc...) but when I brought up the idea that my hormones are most likely off balance and I think it is the pill that caused that, she said that is most likely not the issue (just like everyone else). So she is not covered by insurance, and in short I ended up spending a little under $1,000USD to see her and do some of the tests she had asked me to do. She did test Thyroid function and that came back normal, but nothing with hormones. I am trying to find another doctor, but with all of them its like when you call them and tell them your issue and that you think its hormonal they are all for it and agree to test it but when you meet with them and have to pay them the money they try and convince you its something different. I'm not saying they are all like that, its just very hard to find a doctor who will listen to you.

Hi, welcome to the forum! Sorry you are going through this! I am almost 3 months off the pill and my anxiety and other symptoms always get worse right before and after my period. Don't worry, it will pass - for some people it is like that for a few cycles as the hormones balance out, for others it can be months.

Thank you, I will definitely keep you posted on how it goes. I most likely won't start until next week though when I'll be at home for vacation in case I have any weird side effects and can't work.

Have some weird GI disturbance before and after my period! I feel so gassy, and then some chest tightness too - Not sure if its attributed to anxiety. It scares me.

It definitely sounds like anxiety to me. Before this whole experience, I only thought of anxiety as anxious thoughts (racing thoughts, what ifs, not being able to calm my mind down, etc...) but I have learned that anxiety also manifests in physical forms as well - dizziness, GI issues as you mentioned (such as nausea, diarrhea, constipation, all sorts of weird stuff), chest tightness and pressure, not being able to "breathe right," feeling light headed, fatigue, there are so many. The feelings of impending doom I can definitely relate to also, right after my last period (last month) I was sure I was going to die. Like no doubt about it, I was convinced. I started googling "what its like to die" "does it hurt to die" etc... so yes, you are not alone. Those thoughts slowly went away.

Crying right now. I feel so scared. I thought everything was okay after I got my first period but then I’m here again feeling a plethora of symptoms. I couldn’t breathe properly because of excessive bloating/ gas. I have been constipated for days now and this never happened to me until I stopped the pill. Now, I also have a pulsatong headache. I am scared of dying. I have been crying for days now because I feel like I have cancers on different parts of my body. Am I the only one feeling this? Please tell me Im not alone - because I badly need some comfort/ assuramce that everything will be okay.

I completely understand. I was on Depo for 7 years and recently on the mini pill - Micronor- for about 4 years. I was beginning to have major spotting issues so my boyfriend and I decided to give my body a break. Stopped the mini pill and spotting stopped almost immediately. YAY! However... one week later and I am INCREDIBLY ANXIOUS. I have turned into a hypochondriac - in the past two weeks I have diagnosed myself with Uterine cancer, colon cancer, Parkinson's disease, etc. etc. I can't stop thinking about my symptoms and thinking that I am going to die or be ill. Also, I have horrible bloating and gas. Last night I was so bloated I looked 8 months pregnant. It was so painful. AND I am constipated and will have really small poops (TMI) and then diarrhea randomly and then the cycle continues. My head is killing me, my boobs hurt so bad, I am having cramps, and my muscles twitch and shake. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Hang in there, stay active, possibly get hormone tests? I am going next week for testing.
