I have been off the pill for about three weeks now and I have seriously lost my mind! I am SO depressed and SO moody that I have no idea what to do with myself. I can go from being completely ok and content to so irritable and angry. I know that this is usually what happens when coming off these pills. I was on them for about five years, maybe six I'm not sure. I was wondering if there is ANY way to make it stop or calm down a bit. I don't know what to do with myself and it's really hurting my relationship with my boyfriend. He's being very understanding but it's making him weird too because he doesn't know when I'm suddenly going to get mad. He feels like he's walking on eggshells constantly. Please, any help? :'(

Hi after stopping to take the pill, your body need about three months to start to produce your normal hormones. And during this period you will be experiencing many side affects from getting off the pill. Many women have to go through this. The best thing for you is to go to a doctor. What about your eating habits? Have they changed?

I agree with what dark_red has posted. Don't worry--you haven't lost your mind or anything! You're just experiencing symptoms of going off the pill. It will take a couple months before you will be back to normal. In the meantime, it might be a good idea for you to look into some anger management techniques. Since you know this is the problem, realize that it's not your boyfriend who's upsetting you and try as much as possible to keep him from feeling like you're taking it out on him. If your symptoms get worse, talk to a doctor about it. Keep us posted on how you're doing!

Hi:
There must be something that your doctor can give you to walk you thru this process. Perhaps a very low dose of the BC hormones to wean you off of the drug. Don't let these kinds of severe mood swings and depression go on. It could be dangerous for you. Get to your doctor right away. Call the office if he can't see you right away. Be sure to explain the severity of your situation. I hope that you get answers soon. Please let us know how you are doing.

Thank you all SO much for replying. I had a very long talk with my boyfriend last night just so he is fully aware that he is NOT the problem, in fact he is my only dose of sanity at this point! :-D I'm feeling MUCH better today, I think it has a lot to do with the answers provided here, it's always reassuring to know that I'm not actually insane. I think that I will also definitely be talking to my doctor about this and checking to see if there's anything that can help. I must admit, had I known going off the pill would have been this bad I never would have started it! Live and learn... haha Thank you all so much again!

Hi I'm glad that you fill good today, and that you have talked to your boyfriend about this. He has to know that he is not a problem, and he is helping you a lot through this. You will be ok on your own in a month or two, but if you want you can go to a doctor, and maybe he will be able to help you in a fester way.
Well pills make your life easer (sexually), but you have to know that they might be some side affects. Read the pamphlet in side the box of any medication that you use, it contains very important data. And like you said "live and learn" (i like this one).

It's good to hear that talking it out is helping you! The most important thing to do is to talk to someone when you are in a bad situation and that's something that couples frequently fail to do. In fact, without your talk, you and your boyfriend would have probably been on the rocks! Hopefully your doctor is able to find a solution to your mood changes as well, so keep us posted on that diagnosis. Thanks for posting your situation here :-)

I agree that talking was a huge help and that most people fail to communicate effectively. Oddly enough since the day I posted this issue I have been completely fine. I guess it took me the three, almost four weeks to start producing my own hormones again? I do know that it'll probably be up and down for a while and I'm not out of the woods yet, however, this is much better than how I was feeling! I'm sure talking to my boyfriend helped a lot too since I was stressing about us quite a bit. Thank you all again for your help!

Well you are doing just fine as I can see. And three or four weeks is really a good time. In many cases it takes a women up to 16 weeks until she starts to produce her hormones by herself.
It may be a break down from time to time, but you are over the worst. It is nice that you have supporting boyfriend. It means so much to person to be understood.
If you have anymore questions fell free to post here. We will be here for you.

i've heard the same thing can take up to 3 months before your body becomes used to its own cycles again, without the hormones of bc

I am still suprised every day! I never had to go on any medications for the depression I was feeling. I have been totally normal again. I still can't believe how fast I went from feeling miserable to feeling sane again! Thank you all for your help and support :-)
