My mother is 57 years old and has just came from the doctor with bad news about her constant tiredness. She has SLE and it seems that she is very shook up by that fact. I realize that no medication will eliminate her problems, so I am wiling to help her in any way I can. Going to the seaside with lupus disease – is that smart thing to do? I thought that a little vacation might do her good – to try to relax and accept her condition more easily.

Well, that is a good idea, especially for her mental state. Still, if this seaside includes traveling south, to areas with stronger sun effect, I would be very careful. Ultraviolet rays can emphasize the effects of the SLE, so be on alert and make your mother use strong sun ointments (with highest sun factor) all the time. It would be for the bets to stay away fom the direct sun as much as possible.
