Why would a doctor need to go through the nose to check a mass on the lungs? My grandmother is in the hospital and is 77. They have recently found a mass on her lung, is it necessarly cancer?

I imagine that they are going through her nose to be as noninvasive as possible, as I imagine the surgery would be rather difficult to deal with one way or the other. As for the mass being cancer, no, it could be a host of things from a clot to a benign tumor. I always advise people in these situations to wait until they know that it's something to worry about, because a lump does not automatically equal cancer. Keep us posted on her condition, okay?
