I went to have a explora scan done as a precautionary manner for my husband and myself. They found a 2cm mediatistinal mass in my chest. I have a severe allergic reaction to iodine so I cannot have contrast on another CT scan they recommended 3 months later. I had an MRI and went to a pulmonologist. The MRI came out clear and they had in the original CT scan said that this mass may respresent thymus?? I am so confused. My pulmonologist said he was happy with the MRI but what does that mean. The radiologist said since the original mass showed up on the CT scan I should have another CT with Iodine which is not possible. No conclusions have been drawn and I feel just like another number to my doctor. We requested at the advise of a radiologist to do a petscan. I attempted to get it paid for by my insurance but they said since it is not a noddual in my lung that they will not pay for a mass. Which I heard could still be cancerous. My husband and I though it would be tough may just pay for a petscan to be done. Is this advisable and would it detect if it is infact cancer. The lady at the doctors office said maybe the doctor would recommend an explority biopsy my worry is its in my chest cavity. Distraught! Please advise. Should I do the petscan ASAP it has been over 3 1/2 months since we found the mass now, waiting for doctors and approvals etc. I was going to try and get pregnet again but all is on hold. I am a 40 year old white female. Please help.
