I have been reading this message board for the past few days, and I just wanted to share my story. I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 20. When it came time to start a family, my OB put m e on Clomid to start. This did nothing. I was on clomid for a few months. He had me then tale femara, and it took about 3-4 months, but it did eventually work! I have a beautiful 3 year old daugther, and I have an appoitmment in September with a fertility centre to start on baby number 2! I am hoping that the will also put me on femara, adn that it will take less time the secind time around. I had no side effetcs with femara. I wish everyone the best of luck!

This sounds very familiar to me. I'm 32. I'm on my fourth month of using Femara. Before going on it, I would have very obvious positive OPK's on Day 18 of my 30 day cycles. Used in combination with prometrium, I've noticed weird OPK's. I'm no longer able to identify a peak just before ovulation. In fact, I usually have to take two or three OPK's in a day (between days 13 and 15) to see a "just positive" peak. I haven't had any sonos to detect follicles, but I have experienced some heavy ovulation pains since on the drug (and even some mid-cycle bleeding), which I took for a good sign.

I'm ready to go off the hormone cocktails altogether. I've gained lots of weight, and I just feel like an emotional basket case. I'm ready to get my old (even if it's infertile) self back.

Thank you! I've been experiencing less-than obvious OPK's for an LH surge ever since I started femara (four months ago). Before going on the drug, I could count on a day of "almost there" then a day to a day-and-a-half of "clearly there." I'm on CD 20. This month was another one of those "it-looks-like-those-lines-are-the-same-color-on-a-day-they're-supposed-to-be-so-let's-go-ahead-and -go-for-it" months. ...

The 2nd cycle with Femara was confirmed today that it did not work which is very upsetting since the 1st month was very promising. It takes a tool on you mentally and physically after you have several weeks of sonograms, blood tests and having intercourse in hopes that I would ovulate during non doctor appointment days and in the end... never ovulated this month.

Good news is that the doctor confirmed that we need to get more aggressive treatment. Appointment made for September 4th so that I can enjoy the last few weeks of summer laying on the beach with my husband! Today, we're celebrating our 7th wedding anniversary with a few drinks and not worrying about the next appointment!

Never stop believing ...

Hi ladies, this is my second round on Femara. I took it days 2-5 last month and nothing. This month I took it 3-6 and first noticed my BBT where more pronounced and my cycle was more regular as opposed to barley there like last month. I am crossing my fingers that the homone pat of it is working and this will be my month!

Ladies, I have just read 13 pages of your comments on Femara and I do not see my situation anywhere. I sure hope someone can help...

My dr. prescribed 8 pills (2.5) and had me take them ALL AT ONCE on cd3. That was this morning at 7:30 am and it is now 2:15 am. SO FAR I've not had any side effects.

I have been all over the internet & cannot find anything about such a protocol. he actually suggested it back in january & I chickened out because of not being able to find anything about it... but now, after several more unsuccessful natural cycles - and due to the LOUD ticking of my biological clock (I will turn 40 this month... so this is my last cycle before what seems like the end of my chances, so to speak)...

I went ahead & did it!!!

Right now I am scheduled for an u/s on cd10 and a progesterone test on cd 18 (my cycles typically avg 25 days). I am planning to start OPK aon cd9.

Please tell me this is not the craziest thing anyone has ever done. I'm so scared about what I have put into my body. I resisted meds for a long time, but the b-day thing put me over the edge. we have been trying for 2 years since my miscarriage in 06.

The only thing that seems comforting is that Femara has a short halflife? and I guess should be out of my body fairly quickly... but I just wonder with such a high dose all at once??? YIKES!!! I guess I'll just have to let you know how it goes.

Please pray for me & for a BFP!!!

I have been trying to get pregnant now for 1 year. I have been on chlomid for the last 7 cycles...starting with 50 mg a day up to 150 mg the last couple of cycles. Not only have I not gotten pregnant, but I have not ovulated as well. I'm really hoping Femara works. I will start taking my first pill tomorrow. Thanks for all the comments. It gives me hope!

I have just finished me 1st Month of femara. According to my blood work I did ovulate but I started today... so another month of trying. My RE put me on Femara I never even took clomid. I also have a unicornuate uterus with only 1 left ovary, does anyone have that problem? I would love to hear more femara success stories. No one knows how I feel.. all my friends have babies and they tell me it will be ok but they have no idea!

As mentioned a few weeks ago, the second cycle of Femara did not work at all. Going on 8wks since my last period and no sign of ovulating any time soon. I'm extremely bloated and irritable... only great thing is that I have been able to drink and enjoy the last month of August without doctor appointments of being on meds etc.

Received a called from my fertility specialist and we're on track for starting my second cycle of IVF this Thursday. It's been over 2yrs since my last failed attempt so I'm a bit nervous but feel more prepared than before. I was a bit shocked that when my meds were filled that no Femara... back on Lupron and Gonal F.

Staying positive... starting to eat healthy again (no more Starbucks Mocha Frapps!!!), back to the acupuncturist and yoga. Good luck to all of us who are desperately trying to have a healthy baby!

Well, I went for my ultrasound this past Friday and my doctor said that my follicles were too small to release any eggs. They measured at 14 mm and 11 mm and they should have been 24mm or bigger. So they next thing he suggested was to try Clomid 200 mg and then if that doesn't work try a surgery called ovary drilling, not quite sure what that involves just yet. Then if that doesn't work the only other option for me is In Vitro which costs $18,000. That's a lot of money so my husband and I are just praying about what to do about all this. It's very confusing at times which way to turn. Right now I am trusting the Lord and the doctors.

I went for my 2nd ultrasound today. The first was on Tuesday to see how many follicles I had and the size of them. Today they said the eggs have not grown at all. This is the first time I have taken femara so the doctor wants to see me again on Monday to see if the follicles have grown at all. If not we will not move forward with the IUI. Not sure what the next step will be.

Officially started my second IVF cycle in 2.5yrs... CD 6 Provera and CD 1 Lupron and waiting for the "lupron period" to begin Gonal F injections. Received bloodwork results today and now have to take thyroid medication on top of everything else. Learning to accept things are they come since we have no control. Praying each day that we're making the right choices for ourselves and our unborn babies.

For the previous post ngibson512, you may want to find out if your state has government funding for IVF. New York State does but you have to meet certain income and medical criteria. My husband and I didn't qualify because we make more than the minimum but have recommended several friends and family members who are benefiting from these grants. Don't let money be a reason to not consider IVF. In our case, it's the only option. We've tried everything in the last 4yrs. Thank God that I have excellent insurance which covers a majority of it! When I do max out on my fertility coverage, I'll take advantage of both of our employers' adoption coverage. Good luck!

To all that are out here and still trying to conceive don't get discouraged. We had tried for 5 years with an unexplained fertility diagnosis and every time the clomid & artificial insemination didn't work or tests didn't provide an answer I was devastated. But I cried for a few days and than I shook it off and started trying again knowing everything comes in due time if it is meant to be. We finally decided to pay the price and do the in-vitro fertilization with an egg donor and on the 1st try I became pregnant with twins. I did lose my daughter at 5 1/2 months in utero but was still blessed with a beautiful son who is now 4. I can tell you from experience all the sorrow, pain, disappointment and cost is worth it all if you have success, so please keep your faith.

I am now trying for my second and using Femara. I am very hopeful from these messages. Best of luck to us all.
