Wish I hadnt bothered with the op, I only did it cause I didnt like the way mone looked. big mistake, now I dread going to the toilry. Although saying that it is no worse than it was over a year ago, so Ive been through it all before!

well, I'm 2.5 weeks post surgery and I'm still having pain with my bm's and blood. The blood goes away, it's not like it was at day 2 and 3.... but I take stool softeners, lots of water, high fiber, lots of fruit to make things smooth and no matter how smooth or soft it is, it still kills me when I am pooping and the pain afterwards is still quite high. Sometimes it's not so bad, I just don't really know what's going on back there, don't know what to do to make my bm's NOT HURT.

sheekchic, I know that you're taking a lot of the proper steps to make sure that you are recovering properly but I have to ask if you're talking to your doctor to make sure the pain is normal and if it's possible to get some sort of topical ointment or painkiller? Have you spoken to them about anything like that?

I had a ligasure hemorrhoidectomy two days ago. Had to take Senokot to make me go. 1st day I was more uncomfortable before I opened my bowels. It wasn't as bad as I thought. Today it was pretty painful afterwards, but it is easing. I take painkillers and anti-inflammatories, and I have been told to use pile cream if needed plus pads soaked in witch hazel. The drugs can make you constipated. I'll just hang in there. Beth (England)

I had the surgery about a month ago . . . very uncomfortable for first two weeks, but well worth it. I haven't felt this good in years. Keep on going. It will pay off in the end! (Ha Ha)

god help all these people who suffers from hemmorhiods. i had mines removed about 6 days ago. everything went well until i realise i got the wrong pain medication. when the medication worked out from the surgery and the pain killers did not work i said to my wife , why did i go for this surgery, this pain was unbearable. the worst pain is when you have a BM. you dont know if to sit lie or stand. in one occassion after one BM i had pain for three hours . advise for all those who had surgery , make sure you take your pain killers 1 hour before you have a BM and have a hot sitz bath after a BM. this recovery period looks like it will take forever . at times i dont know if to piss, fart or #2. i dont want to try to fart cause with the stool softener i might end up doing a #2. i am not making it look bad but after all this torment we are going to have a new anal passage. we just have to bear with this pain a little longer than we thought. just remember that surgery is a better option than to live with hemmorhoids for 25 plus years.have patients like myself everything is going to be fine

Make sure after the sitz bath after BM to keep heat on that area, either by sitting on a heat pad or hot water bottle, (5.00) at Walmart.
It gets better some days are good ,others are not so good, but eventually life is much better without them.
Had my surgery almost a year ago now, what a difference.

I was wondering how long it was to get over the pain. I suffer too after every BM. I am supposed to go back to work this week, and I still feel no relief. It has only been 2 1/2 weeks since my surgery. I still feel a burning sensation, and especially after a BM, I am tired of taking pain pills and sitz baths. But those are the only things that bring relief. It is fine going to the bathroom, it's just the right after that is irritating & painful hours afterwards. How are you supposed to function at work or just on a daily basis?

I had my surgery 24 days ago and is still suffering after every BM. I lost 8 kg's already. I go back to clean several times after BM. It is not easy to take a salt bath when at work. This surgery was terrible. I will not wish this to my worst enemy. I had constant pain for 3 weeks. How long will it take before I can have a normal BM without the swelling and pain afterwards. I try to regulate it so that I need to go evey 2nd day.
This leaves me with a day without pain.

Any better edw? I am a month out and I feel much better but I am not completely healed. I went to the doctor and she said it would just take time. I still have swelling and stitches and an open wound, but the swelling goes down a little each day. Don't lose heart. I only take a bath at night now, and it is mostly from irritation. I am also only taking ibuprofen in the am and at night. I am still taking stool softeners and fiber, but am going to to try and cut down to one stool softener and then try to get rid of them all together. As long as it is soft it is ok. The burning is not there anymore! I hope you are also experiencing some improvement!

Thank you for the encouragement. It has been a long haul, my Dr. said I was one of those people that was dealt the cards of it just taking longer than others. I am doing better, though I have my moments, after a BM, (sorry TMI) It is fine when I go, but it is the after, like something inside is bruised. I know this might be a concern, but it seems to be doing a lot better especially after walking and trying to exercise. I have found that walking, doing exercises that tighten up the lower area of my body helps a lot. So I am vowed to definitely change my life style, diet, &  and do all that I can do to help. I also am taking bioflavonoids with rutin, they say it is supposed to be helpful.

Have you tried icing after? I did my cleanup, then sitz bath, and then if I had that icky bruised feeling I would take an infant diaper, cut a small slit in the end and fill it with ice. It makes a great ice pack that you can wear like a pad in your underwear and it doesn't get messy or wet because the diaper absorbs the extra water.
