Having experienced valium withdrawl as well as xanex withdral over the years, both of which ended up requiring psychiatric hospitialization ~ I am presently enduring klonipin withdrawal with minimal difficulties. I am having to come off of it cold turkey because pharmaceutical warehouses in Texas have stopped delivering it to major pharmacy chains and I was unable to get my refill several days ago. I am experiencing headaches (mild), ringing in the ears (sporadic), blurred vision (occassional), and a little bit of hyper-activity. I am believing that the reason that I am not having a lot of difficulty now is because I am taking Tegretol (anti-seizure medication), as well as Seroquel, which helps the nerves a lot and guarantees a good night's sleep every night. Also, I am taking vitamins -- especially B-12. One last thing, my positive attitude and prayer -- sincere prayer, not frantic prayer -- is making this withdrawal from Klonipin not be a nightmare as I have heard others describe what they went through. Have heart! Drink lots of water. Good luck; it really will be okay.

Quite a while ago...QUITE a long time ago, ... I posted on this thread. I hijacked it a bit, for which I apologize. But, today, I was sent a new email from Steady Health. For well over a year now, I have been posting my own thread in regards to clonazepam (aka, Klonopin). I do not mean in anyway to hijack this thread again, but I simply know that there are many of you out there suffering from this drug, and I thought you might like to know about my experiences and how I came off of it. If it is any help anyone, then I am happy I took the time to post it. It's a long post, so brace yourself. :-D
Here's the link on Steady Health:

Best wishes to all of you in your journey to come off of this drug.

Glad to respond -- No, I do not have rapid heart beats, but have been experiencing racing thoughts and vivid, busy dreams, which basically just wear me out. I take 300 mg of Seroquel at night. Also helpful is Topamax -- 1 mg. in the morning and 2 at bedtime. Doctors laugh and call it "Dope-a-max" but that helps too. So far so good. Seroquel DOES stop anxiety attacks and Panic attacks. At one time after a severe panic attack they put me on 1000 mg. of Seroquel and discharged me from the hospital on 600 mg. Now, if I feel a lot of anxiety, I take an extra 300 mg. of Seroquel and take a nap. That takes care of it. Hope this post helps. hOW ARE YOU DOING?

Hello??? Guest????? Are you still out there??? I, being very aware that its been 6 years since your post about your experience withdrawing from klonopin, am DESPERATELY hoping that you or ANYONE from this online conversation can update me on your progress/experience. Did you experience success from getting off the klonopin? If so, what do you think was the most important factor in your recovery? Please bear in mind that I am unemployed, uninsured (yeah, what a difference SIX YEARS has made!!!!) and realizing that the law that says "a doctor MUST treat you" does NOT mean they must treat you WELL! I've been SNATCHED off the medication - left to withdraw COLD TURKEY because I have no insurance and about 5-6 doctors I've seen REFUSE to continue writing the prescription, or go with me through the withdrawal process SLOWLY from start to finish. The originating prescribing neurologist "lost" his pain clinic and DISAPPEARED!!! Now, I'm in the middle of a nightmare, suffering from more anxiety, panic & depression that I started with 6 years ago - YES, I'VE BEEN ON KLONOPIN FOR 6 YEARS!!! Somebody.... ANYBODY...... HELP ME!!! I'm 46 years old & already suffering from high blood pressure, migraines, depression, panic attacks, anxiety, and most recently high blood sugar (no results after giving blood at a clinic a week ago because their ONE doctor hasn't taken the time to read them and note the chart), rapid 50 lb weight gain, severe nightmares.... i could go on, but none of us have the time!!! In a nutshell, I'm tired, scared, mentally/emotionally/physically depleted and all alone in my desperate attempts to simply BE ALIVE again... I'm lost and truly fear that I'll NEVER be found

I have been on Klon for more or less 10 years, and am up to 6-8 mg's a day. I am planning a 6 month weaning process, and hope to God I get through it. It's been 2 weeks at a reduced, but steady dosage and I just had my first "panic attack"....was not fun at all. Took 1mg emergency dose as i like to call it, and am sure I'll have to again, but will stick to my weaning off schedule the rest of the time. I think it's a solid plan, but I know I'm in for a rough time. Please let me know how you are doing, I see your post is from 6 years ago. Would welcome any and all advice. Thank you.

Hi Sondra, i am in the same boat that you were (I see your post is from a while ago, so hopefully you will see this). I have been on klonopin for 10+ years and was up to 6-8 mg's a day until 2 weeks ago when I decided to make myself a weaning off plan (plan is for 6 months, not sure how realistic this is, but it's a starting point). I started out at a lower dose than my max was, am taking 4 mg's (1mg 4 times a day to keep a steady amount in my system at all times) I just had my first really bad "panic attack" and popped an emergency 1 mg, which I know is going to be necessary, but I will stick to my weaning off plan at all other times. I had dizziness, trouble breathing, got really hot, flushed, thought I was gonna have a heart attack......I was wondering if you experienced this, these symptoms? It was no fun at all, and way worse than any attack i've ever had. I'd like to know how you are today, about your experience and would welcome any and all advice, hoping you will see my reply. Thanks in advance.

When I started thinking this felt like withdrawal from klonopin, I thought, no way, I have been off klonopin for almost 3 months! I typed it in and guess what---HELLO---I'm not the only one who knows what they are feeling. IT IS klonopin withdrawal symptoms! XX described it best with the symptoms---and if all of this is true, we have been DUPED--Klonopin should never be prescribed to anyone!! I went thru HELL getting off of it only to wind up 4 months later still experiencing the same sh*t!! Klonopin should be off the market!! Sorry for all of you just getting off of it--You will experience hell on earth for awhile, but you can do it. If I can get off it without any rehab or intervention then I feel anyone can because I am a whimp! I was on my best friend, KLONOPIN, for 11 yrs---I took 3 mg a day (3-1 mg tabs) This type of friend I do not need, so I said goodbye almost 4 months ago, but this type of friend keeps hounding you and bugging you to let them back into your life--do not do that!! I now realize that what I experience sometimes IS withdrawal so I just get thru it. I know when I wud hear folks say they just got thru it--it would make me angry because it was not that simple--and it is not, but you must also convince yourself that you made it thru the worst part--so the scragglers who wish to invade your mind and body just might as well hang it up---CUZ--we AIN'T gonna be your friend no more!! There is life after Klonopin---just give it time---In the mean time, cuss or spit or just go eat dirt cuz it will take time as we well know----GOD BLESS US ALL-----WE ARE STRONG!!!

I would suggest a 12-step program, like AA. Ten years ago I was hopeless and lost and KNEW I would never be found, but in the rooms of AA I found people like me, all addicted to something. You don't have to be an alcoholic to go to AA. Alcohol is a drug. I devoted 5 solid years to attending regular AA meetings and working the 12 steps with sponsor. I found support, love and tolerance. I didn't have a problem with alcohol, but I preferred that program to CA or NA because the program is not diluted. Through the help of these people, I withdrew from hard core street drugs and have managed to stay away completely from street drugs and drug abuse of prescriptions now, for 7 years. I am once again implementing the tools -- on a daily basis-- I learned in AA to combat this withdrawl from klonopin. The withdrawal is still tolerable and symptoms diminish more with each new day. What have you got to lose? I would recommend it to anyone battling an addiction. One more thought -- have you considered going into treatment? If you have insurance, this is a good way to fight the withdrawal with kindred spirits.
