I have Rheumatoid Arthirits and I have been on Methotrexate since 1989. Recently due to higher blood pressure my PCP put me on Hydrochlorot. I’m on 50 mg/day. I was told today that Hydrochlorot contains sulfur. Is it true? If it is, should I be given an alternative without sulfur?

Well, Methotrexate is a medication that was usually used in cancer treatment. Of course, doses were much higher than in Rheumetoid Arthritis treatment. But, with higher doses drug toxicity can occur. Also, organic acids such as sulfonamioles can potentially increase MTX blood levels, which is not good in your case. AS far as I know Hydrochlorot contains sulfur and I would recommend you to start using alternative without it…

I was given this fluid pill today by my doctor. I am allergic to sulfur and my dr has left for the day and so has my pharmacist. I live in a small town. Should I wait to take the Hydrochlorot? I am just now reading about it having Sulfur in it. I have never had high blood pressure before but due to recent events and well weight gain i do now.
