no. u are wrong. same thing has happened to me. and i dont sit on my ass. im a working mom. i saw doctor for high bp and anxiety 1.5 year ago. it runs in the family, as does stroke and heart attack. so... i thought, whatever the side effects, i better do this. i am 43 years old. my fat weight is 148. i am now 165 lbs. everytime that i went to doc, ( about every 8 weeks), i complained. he said, well ur getting older and howabout ur diet? i was bulemic in my youth. i am very weight concerned, even 20 years later. i can except a little weight gain with age. but, not this. so... ur less than compassionate comment bothers me, as i am sure others. u sound like a doctor. fyi... i have stopped my meds. because, id rather die than gain another pound. and i am sure there are a lot of others out there like me.

This same thing is happening to me. I have been forcing myself to work out everyday with 15 minutes of fast paced resistance exercycling and then using my home gym for another 15 minutes to strengthen and tone my upper body. It's very difficult for me to lose weight on any given week but normally with this type of persistence I was able to acheive results. However being on the Hydrochlorothiazide is preventing me from losing any weight. At first I thought I was nuts until I started reading into it. I'm almost certain the water pill is causing my difficulty. Lately I have been decreasing my calorie intake by half and pushing for a second exercycle session on some days but still the weight loss wall remains in place. I am stopping the water pill to see if any change.

You have no idea how the human body works and what issues are at play. I take meds that keep me alive, whether I'm out and about or sitting on my ass. So yes--I do expect a medicine to keep me alive whether I change or not.

I agree, I was taking it for the past 6 years. O went from 135 to 179. I did my research and told my doctor I will not take this medication any more. I have been off it for the past 3 months. I have lost 30 pounds.

Same thing here, I use to run 8 to 20 miles every other day without losing a single pound. I convinced my doctor to take me off this medication. I have lost 30 pounds in 3 months. I went from 179 to 149.

I've also had the same experience. I can't believe it has taken me this long to figure out what was behind my inability to lose weight and constant hunger/thirst. Harvard Cardiologist decided to add this med to the lisinopril I had been taking to "better control" my bp. I was 123lbs 5"8 at the time, 4 years later 132lbs and unable to lose any weight despite extreme exercise, intense cardio, weights, and long 5-6 mile runs 6-7 days /week, eating healthy counting calories. I had intense salt cravings while on the hctz and never felt full after eating. Not to mention getting up to pee 5x a night and always thirsty. After 1 month off this med I lost 7lbs already, my bp is lower than ever before with just lisinopril 20mg, I feel full after eating and don't have to get up a million times a night, also ringing in my ears stopped. Worst medication of all time.

I have been taking the same medication and Ive been exercising 6 days a week, I did the 30 day green smoothie challenge and then I've been following the 1200 diabetic calorie diet for a month now and I have gained weight. This is the heavest. I've been since I was pregnant with my son (175lb). My son was born 24 years ago. I can't handle being this heavy so I said I was going to stop taking this medication because I'm diabetic and being overweight is not good for a diabetic (insulin dependent). I need help also.

Well you are being rude, and uninformed. I am a former competitive bodybuilder and still eat very healthy and train everyday. I was put on thiazide about 3 years ago...I have been dealing with dizziness, bloating, and finding it VERY difficult to stay lean. I am still a muscular guy @ 6'2 and 254lbs... HOWEVER I am only eating 2200 calories a day, cardio 4x week, and weights 5x a week.... in the past few years with this protocol I still have put on about 10lbs of bodyfat. After getting very fed up with it, I started researching what it could be....so I Stopped taking Thiazide 4 weeks ago, and already dropped 5lbs.

The guy who said that to you is a penis!! F HIM.. I've always had the body of a grown woman since I was 11. It sucks. I have a double genetic factor of HBP and Diabetes. My oldest brother had a stroke at 47 which puts the rest of us younger 4 siblings @ 4x likely with that future. Im only on a Half of a 25mg Hydro and I too notice the difficulty losing weight. I actually eat healthier than my husband and can out run him and he's 11yrs older than me with no health issues. It's hard. But Enjoy your life, screw people who are jerks and just watch the Salt. Drink lots of water and drop your Carbs.. this should help reset your metabolism. I've dropped 20lb from 174-154 trying to get to 130 and im 5'1 33yrs old. Either way, your heart is benefiting from exercise even if the pounds take their sweet time. Best wishes..

Mine too. I had two surgeries this past year and they had me on so many prescriptions. I have been getting so sick detoxing from them all, but I don't want them anymore. I need to see if the hctz taken in the morning and benadryl at night has been making my legs cramp constantly.

I've been taking hctz 32 years now along with norvasc 10 mg. I suspect these drugs are making my legs hurt. My problem with leg pain started about 10 years ago. My doctor doubled my norvasc med from 5-10mg along with hctz. I've been bounced around from doctor to doctor seeking an answer to why my legs were cramping 24/7. All of the doctors I saw never brought up these two drugs as being the culprit. So after extensive research I have come to the conclusion that it must be these drugs. Instead of 10mg of norvasc, I now take 5mg. I've been doing this for 3 days. I also stopped taking the hctz yesterday. Over the course of the years I've noticed considerable weight gain, loud mind blowing tinnitus, massive hair loss and worst of all leg pain. The leg pain has caused me to miss all kinds of family functions and vacations. After taking this for so long, I never put two and two together. I trusted my doctors to know what they were doing. I now don't trust any of them. I am now of the mindset that they're mostly there to keep you as a patient. I would advise as others have to be your own advocate. Please do not put any drugs into your body unless you've vetted them first and only add them one at a time including otc meds. Detoxing from these drugs has been extremely difficult. I'm really sick right now and hope this doesn't last long.
