I have had itching and irritation around where I urinate and in the vaginal area. I took a home test and began taking septra. During the time I took the septra the itching stopped. I had my urine checked at the Dr.'s office
and was told there was no infection. The itching has started again I am especially sensitive after I bathe. Gold Bond anti itch cream helped but the itching and irritation continues. I am a 60 year old woman. Could this be some other problem rather than a urinary tract infection?

Harvard Women’s Health Watch states:

“Many women have been primed to think no further than "itch equals yeast infection." But with age and the decline in estrogen after menopause, we become more prone to a variety of conditions that irritate vulvar skin. These conditions aren't getting the medical attention they need — and women aren't getting the relief they deserve.”

"The differential diagnosis of vulvar problems is as complicated as for headache, chest pain, or diarrhea. There are many, many causes," says Elizabeth G. Stewart, M.D., assistant professor of obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive biology at Harvard Medical School and director of the vulvovaginal service at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates.”

So, that was the opinion of Harvard.  But, from another source:  “vaginal symptoms occur as a result of the lining tissues of the vagina becoming thinner, drier, and less elastic as estrogen levels fall. Symptoms may include vaginal dryness, itching, or irritation.”

If the itchiness happened after a bath, your skin could be even dryer.

I think you should go to a Gynecologist and check with her/him.  Maybe it’s not the usual suspects.

I noticed you posted this many years ago, so I’m sure you’ve already visited a doctor who could help.   Hopefully this will benefit someone else.
