First surgery was for blown discs and ended up assigned with pain management taking 60 mg 10/325 hydrocodone and 3200 mgs of neurontin daily. Pain still persisted badly. Recently had a fusion of L2-L3 vertabrae and have been prescribed 2 each 10/325 mg oxycodone 4 x daily, 1800 mgs neurontin daily, and 10 mgs valium 3 x daily for spasms. Should I expect better pain relief form this last round of medication?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Guest,

It's impossible to predict.

Certainly the valium will help with any spasms that you had that were increasing your discomfort.  Hopefully the surgery helped stabilize your lumbar region to reduce the need for painkillers.

It's common to have to "adjust" dosages after such a surgery.  Additionally, as your body becomes use to them you'll likely need more to provide relief.

There are doctors that specialize in just providing pain relief.  If you don't notice any significant improvement get a referral.  They can often provide a better quality of life with less medication.

Good luck.

medic-dan, Thank you for your quick reply. I will see how the next month goes and see about a possible referral if needed. Thanks again!
