This gives me a certain degree of pain relief for approx 9-12 months. In addition to this treatment I am on 30 (20+10) Norspan patches weekly for the past 18-months. I have been on all the other non opiate pain relief medications over 30-odd years as well as regular anti-inflammatory meds. I Really dislike this regimen, but I cannot have a reasonable daily existence without the denervation & medication, all supervised by my GP and Pain Clinic Specialist. I have annual blood tests for liver, kidney functions and other routine tests, so I am very well supervised. Consult your GP and if necessary also seek a referral to a pain clinic for evaluation. Don't be afraid to ask about all the options for chronic pain management.

I have posted a comment below, however, I can add my experience with pain from chronic arthritis in many joints including both knees (severe) & ankles. The most effective pain relief I get is from the use of inflammatory drugs, Voltaren (Dichlofenec) & Movalis 15. I rotate every 3-months between the two. The Movalis has less effect on the gut and is my preferred option and it relieves my knee/ankle pain much more than either Norspan or Tramadol. I also have to take a Proton Pump inhibitor as well to reduce the acid effects on my stomach. I have been a long term user (40-odd year) of various anti-inflammatory drugs, mainly the ones mentioned. Consult your GP regards your options. What works for one does not always work for everyone, but all are worth a trial..

I also take Norspan 10mg... before this i was taking, endone and panadeine forte. My doctor and pharamacist urged me to start taking the Norspan as it is a much better option than taking all the other pain killers. It has really worked for me. I also starte Yoga and meditation and that also has given me much benefit. I also take Indiocid an anti-inflammotory for break through pain and every day i take Topomax an epilepsy medication for migraines and Resotrans as the muscles in my bowels dont work on their own. At night i take another Topomax, an Endep which helps with Fibromyalgia and Nexium which is a Proton Pump Inhibitor for all the acid reflux i get. I get councelling and had come to terms with the fact that i take all this medication and that it helps me be in a reasonably pain free place, yet i still have my days where life is hard. However i was on holidays and i got sick and i went to the doctors, and he told me tht the Norspan was a very bad drug to be on and that it was going to destroy my pain receptors and the longer i am on it the harder it would be for me to get off it. He said i should start tapering off this drug immediately and very slowly or else it would cause me long term damage. i left the doctors in tears. Now i am in turmoil. i have once put the patch in the wrong spot as i am a very slim girl and the patch couldnt penetrate through in to my blood stream.. the amount of pain i was in was tremendous. i could do nothing for the pain. it was embarassing..i was meditating for hours to no avail... i moved the patch to a meatier spot and after a few days the pain went away and i was back to normal again. i realise maybe this doctor was right, and i may be very dependant on this patch. i dont know what to do either... so back to the question of this original post.. effects of long term use??????? any knowledge at all????
