Irregular Periods After Plan B (emergency contraception) Use

Hey everyone, I took Plan B july of '08 about a week after my period, we had a condom accident.... so I took plan b within 12 hours. It was probly the worst feeling ever for me, i got what seemed to be another period the next day, terrible cramping, fatigue, nausea... the whole nine yards... so i had my period, then a week later had it again from the plan b, then my following period was about a week and a half late.... plan b has different affects on everyone, and not all of the symptoms are listed when you get it, you need to look into it, or talk to a doctor if you can. but definately, if you need to take it, the sooner the better.

Hello...quick question, does Plan B last for a month like regular birth control? or does it do it's thing and stop immediately (leaving you unprotected again).

I took plan b about 60 days ago. it lasted for damn near two weeks long. It was not normal blood. Very brown..and light. There was one day when blood was very heavy and normal red color. It has been..60 days like i said since the start of my last ( plan b induced ) period, and i am still not onto the second period yet. We will See! I am glad i found this site, makes me feel so much better about having such a weird cycle. Lesson - sex lasts too short to be warring for so long..

hi everyone. thank you for openly discussing this. I've been FREAKING out lately too. the condom broke this past weekend, i took plan b but i've been cramping and now i'm seeing a light brown (bloodish) discharge. fingers crossed that its plan b and NOT early signs of a pregnancy..

I'm a bio major, and this weeks topic is in depth discussion zygotes and fertilization. AND worst part is my period isn't "due" for another 20 days so... ultimately I have to wait that long until I know for sure.. and oh gawd, it is THE WORST torture.

I'm worried! the last period I had was April 12 09, i took the plan b somewhere before that period. its now June 21, i still don't have a period. I had 6 negative pregnancy test and negative blood test. Can it be this irregular?

It say these things are normal.

I had my last period on the 9th April 2009, had sex on the 30th of April and condom split, took the morning after pill the next day.Had a few days bleeding on the 7th of May. Had exams around this time and have experienced absent periods before (once for 4 months).However started having frequent urination, began to stress out that I could be pregant,did not get a period or any bleeding since the 7th of May.Waited until the 26th june to try a Clear Blue Digital Pregnancy test which was negative..Lost my job since then(more Stress on top of Stress:().However still no period so I tried another Clear Blue digital test on the 1st of July..still negative..Had an appointment with the doctor on the 9th of July..told him exactly what was goin on..and he mentioned the bout of absent periods from May to Sept 2007. He got me to lie up on teh bed and feel my abdomen..asking if there was any pain..and he typed in my notes "Abdo N". He has told me to come back in a months time for blood tests(thyroid, anaemia..etc)..as I have no other symptoms and by the sounds of things I'm just workin myself up.Had stated that the Morning After Pill can affect cycles afterwards..

I am anaemic anyway so the fatigue and general tiredness is a norm but having checked the internet several times I am just adding to my stress.


Intially not as worried after speakin to the doctor...and was feeling very relieved..and my girlfriends have been very supportive and understanding as has my partner. However the day after speaking with the doctor I began to experience Nipple Tenderness...and very sore at that, as well as constipation.

Have had no nausea!Sore breasts only began last week...Possibly PMS symptoms????

Concerned as my partner and I both 23 are just NOT ready for children yet...at this point in life we still have to finish university.Both coming from strict Catholic families in Ireland we cannot tell our parents. Are sensible and mature enough to have taken the precautions and have both decided on an abortion should it arise that I am pregnant, but cannot leave it to late!

Have scheduled for blood tests to be carried out tomoro to put my mind at ease.
Is there a slight possibility that I could be pregnant?...or can my body be mimicing signs because ive scoured the internet convincing myself....

Should 2x Neg Digital Preg Tests taken 7-8 weeks after intercourse be wrong as well as a doctors opinion????

I took Plan B and got my period two weeks early, and then my next one was pretty much on schedule, however, my period is different now. Instead of starting off heavy and bright red, it starts off light and is dark red/ brownish, which concerns me. I don't know if its just normal period bloating but I feel like my stomach is getting bigger. I'm going to take a pregnancy test just because I'm scared. Has anyone else experienced this after taking Plan B??

I took plan B a couple months ago. my period came back to normal.. although the second one i had after was all a darker brown.. so i wouldnt be too worried about the color.. it can be affected by a lot of different things..

now just today me and my boyfriend had sex.. we used a condom and when he changed the second one broke.. so now i dont even know what to do.. i dont even know what to worry about. he didnt even clean himself after the first time.. we have the worst luck with condoms.. he puts it on right and we dont buy the weird cheap ones.

I'm glad I found this website, I feel much better -- it seems that several people have had my same experience, which is that I got my period twice in a row after taking plan B, and it's brown and spotty (completely unusual for me) -- it's been about 2 weeks total, I just want it to end!!!

It should be over soon thank goodness, but I know it's probably very worrisome and tedious right now. Let us know when things normalize for you, okay?

i didn't come my period for lastmonth but come in this month 1st september & end in within one week..after that i did unprotected sex & i drink planB.Then,now I got my period again in 19thseptember,a little heavy bleeding..I afraid some bad things are happened in my uterus..what should i do?

Question:
If you get an earlier period, or spotting 9, 10 days after taking the pill, can you take a pregnancy test earlier or do you still have to wait the 2 weeks before you can take it?

I'm so anxious! I took plan b the day after unprotected sex, and then got what I think was my period a week after that. It lasted about 6 days, but was much lighter than normal. Now, two weeks later, it's time for what wouldve
been my "normal period" time, and I'm crampingbut haven't started bleeding. Is this normal or is it likely I'm pregnant?

In response to your concerns Txgirl82, you and I are in the exact same situation with the exception of time. It's been about 5 weeks since I have experienced the Emergency Contraceptive "period" (which is actually just uterus lining shedding to prevent your body from actually allowing a pregnancy to take place) and still no legit period for me. I've experienced the same type of cramping and all the other fun PMS symptoms, two negative pregnancy tests... etc. It's been a pretty stellar 5 weeks. The good news is, I'm not pregnant... the bad news is, I have to wait! I assure you, Txgirl82, you do not seem to be pregnant at all. The "period" you had experienced was the uterus lining shedding (I really wish there was a nicer way to put that) which is a GREAT sign. It means that the pill (s) did exactly what they were supposed to do! The gray area about Plan B/Emergency Contraception is that no one really knows when your next legit period will be... there's really no way to tell. As reduntant as this may sound, a pregnancy test (albiet some are afraid to know the answer) will just put your mind at ease. Even just to see the "negative" symbol appear on the test is the hugest sigh of relief and stress reliever you can ask for right now. As you and I are in the same shoes (I really only came to this site to ensure that 5 to 6 weeks without a period CAN indeed happen after taking Plan B/EC), I can only assume that you're good to go. Your period will come when it's ready... No worries. :-)
