I was on accutane for about 4 months. While I was on it I felt like i had been walking in a desert for months, my eyes, lips, nose and mouth were so dry. I also became agitated very easily. To make things worse accutane didn't help my acne.  The monthly blood tests were also very time consuming. Instead of prolonging the process I decided not to take it anymore. It feels like i've tried every topical cream/cleanser out there and still nothing works. I was on zinc supplements and they just made me sick. So far the only thing that has worked at all has been Perfect Skin supplements, but as soon as I stopped taking them (4 a day) my acne was as bad as ever.  I've had acne since I was in grade 4 and now that I'm 20 I feel as if it will never go away.

im 43 and ive had two courses of accutane both for six months taking 60mg per day. in both cases the acne disapeared while i was taking the tablets. after the first does i was spot free for approximately one year and then gradually they came back. two years later i took the second does, again while on them, no spots, but within a year they had returened. the dr that i see says that adult acne is much harder to treat and that accutane has much better results in young people but is practically incurable in adults.

Some People react positively to accutane, and here is an example

I took Accutane when I was a sophomore in high school and it worked well leaving me w/nice skin for a couple yrs to follow. Then it came back in college and I was put on antibiotics which worked great too, but then after a couple yrs I asked about the safety of being on antibiotics so long, so my Dr put me on another 6month course of Accutane. Unfortunately, the results only last for a few months, because here I am totally broken out again. I started using RetinAMicro as preventative (he gave it to me to use after Accutane, but I didn't use it much because it was SO drying). I think it's making my face breakout more before it's working, but I'm very frustrated to be almost 23 and still having bad acne. After 2 courses of Accutane, I too am a minority it didn't cure for life.

I just went to the dermatologist today and it was my 5th month of accutane. My doctor decided to stop it because I have been on 80mg for about 3 months and I am still having break outs. Does anyone have any advice on what to do? Ugh!

I have had the same experience. It's so disheartening that after 2 courses it hasn't worked. I was very hopeful but now I'm so frustrated and dont know what can be my next step to treat my acne. I'm soo sick of spots. I'm considering an endocrinologist. What did your doctor say to you about roacvcutane not working ?

Just to let you know you are not alone. I took accutane for 5-6 months and it was during the summer, which was horrible, time consuming, and I missed out on my favorite time of the year. My face completely cleared up for a little less than a year. It was perfect, no zits, I didn't even have to wash my face. I loved it so much. But after the year it continued to get worse and now I am so depressed that my face is horrible. I really think it was because my doctor did not prescribe a high enough dosage because I don't weigh a lot, but I have a high tolerance for pills etc. (I had to take pain pills when I broke my back) Anyways, I wish so bad I could do the accutane again but I don't wanna waste my time, money, and body with all the bad symptoms AGAIN!

Accutane does not work for me at all. I have a mild case of Acne, but it still wont go away. It's a waste of money in my opinion, don't ever use it. Side effects are horrible, my face is always extremely dry and looks worse then my acne with all my peeling skin and such. Just use some kind of natural supplement like Zinc or Vitamin C. Accutane is very overrated.

i have been on accutane for 3 months now, the first 2 months i was on 20mg but there was no change. My dermatologist increased my medication to 60mg. I have been on the higher dosage for a month now and there has still been no change what so ever. The only change i am recognising in the dry lips and dry skin but no change to my acne.

Starting Accutane my acne got worse instead of better in the first few months. At the end of the 6th month cycle I was nearly acne free. Unfortunately that only lasted around 4 months before I began to break out again. My acne I have noticed has decreased from what it used to be despite still being a constant feature of my face. I'm considering going on Accutane for a second round, even if only to feel the freedom of acne free skin for a short time.

Accutane has not worked for me. I have been on a 40mg dosage for 6 months. My eyes have become very dry and extremly red, lips are cracked, hands developed eczema, and worst of all my acne has become alot worse. I don't know if this is typical but this has been my reaction. Mt derm has had little to say for the whole thing. The process has and countinues to cause me much anger and upset. I don't know if I would take the drug

Acutane can or cant work. Its got a fairly high chance of working tho. I happen to be on my 4 month and already my skin is almost cleared. now before ppl say it sucks or what not, clear your diet NOW! No sodas, fast foods or alchool. Theres a reason they tell you not to go on those things, cause it produces acne. So eat healthy things and you should be fine. Tho theres still some side effects. I only seem to have nose bleeds and dry skin. (Nothin else)
