I started taking Lexapro about 7 months ago and I was about 130-135 lbs. I am now 160 lbs which has caused my self esteem suffer. I exercise daily and eat right, but yet I gained hte weight. I started this drug for depression and anxiety and my doctor didn't tell me about the weight gain.
When I read the information provided by the manufacture, I like how it feratured no weight gain. Well I haven't changed anything with my lifestyle and I have gained about 30 lbs. I decided today to wean myself off of it. I will come back to update how my weight loss is. I am not looking forward to the weaning side effects.

I am really active and athletic-- exercise daily. Nothing about my diet or lifestyle changed.. except my weight. I've been off of Lexapro for 4 months and still can't lose weight. Lexapro caused me to gain 20 pounds! It slows down your metabolism. Kind of a cop out. DON'T TAKE LEXAPRO.

I have used lexapro for 27 months now. I have gained 12 pounds and it is a lot for a small person. Like many others, my doctor doesn't seem phased by the weight gain. It bothers me that I don't look the same and continue to buy new clothes larger size. People who haven't seen me in awhile, say, "wow you've put on weight". I try to make light of it but i don't forget it. I am going to go an a strict regimen to take off some weight during Lent. I must remember the mental condition I was in two years ago when I sought help. I am grateful to not suffer anymore, in general, from the situations that were so overwhelming for me. Like all of you, I wish there was a fair tradeoff but I would not wish the condition I was in, on anyone. Mental health must come first before my concerns over physical appearance. Thank you to each of you who have taken time to post. Think positive, stay positive, congratulations on getting help for yourself, it's not easy.

I'm so glad I found this site. I thought I was going crazy. My Dr. told me Lexapro didn't cause weight gain, but it does! I'm 5' tall and in the past 6 months of taking 20mg Lexapro I've gained 10 lbs. That's a lot for someone my size. I'm obsessing about what I eat, but it doesn't help. I thought about continuing on Lexapro for another 6 months or maybe even a year, but after reading your comments I'll talk to my Dr. about tapering off the med. I have to admit though, this medication has saved my life, my relationship. I couldn't be where I'm today without it. Thank you for your comments.
