My mom's friend, whom she has known for more than thirty years already, just heard the news that she has brain cancer. The doctors will still try and save her and try to operate, but I must say that I am very shaken up about this news, and I am sitting at my keyboard nearly crying, and my hands are shaking. Can they really save her? What is the life expectancy for brain cancer?

I understand how you feel and I think that you are justified in feeling the way you do, because no matter how sad it is, the fact of the matter is that brain cancer is a terminal condition in the vast majority of cases. Not many people survive brain cancer. I think the average life expectancy is no more than two years.
