My child is not growing!!! Our 8 years old son is of short stature and he simply is not growing! We first ignored it but now this fact really upsets us. He’s so obvious shorter then his school friends and we wonder what are the causes to this disorder and what to do? Thanks.

It is important for your son to get professional medical diagnose. The most competent professionals you need to seek advice from are pediatrician, endocrinologist or general practitioner. There’re many causes to the short stature: inherited and genetic factors, delayed or precocious puberty, malnourishment, chronic diseases like asthma, kidney or hearth disease and diabetes, AIDS and so on. He needs to pass through a physical examination-measurement of weight, height, arms and legs and if short stature appears to be sign of some medical abnormality than it’s advised to do some further tests like x-rays and lab results. And as for the treatment there’re two options: medical and surgical. One of the most usual medical treatments is growth hormone in form of injection. The surgical procedure is leg lengthening which increases height up to 5cm, but it’s slow, painful and expensive and may cause some further complications.
