For most men, haemospermia is a one-off event.
What is Haemospermia?
When semen changes from its usual cream-white colour to white with 'a hint of pink', or is bloodstained, it's called haemospermia, which simply means blood in the semen. The semen can also appear brownish-red in colour. Whatever the shade, it isn't normal and means something is not right and should be checked out.
One problem with haemospermia is that it invariably causes men great anxiety. Another problem is that the cause often remains unknown.
Causes/Risk Factors
Haemospermia most commonly affects men in their 30s, although it's by no means exclusive to this age group.
It's not always possible to prevent it from occurring, but if the cause can be found then taking care to avoid such triggers can result in fewer sleepless nights.
Most commonly, haemospermia is a consequence of non-specific inflammation of the urethra (the tube urine passes through), prostate and/or seminal vesicles. That is, inflammation anywhere along the path semen follows when leaving the body.
Other possible causes include:
* Minor trauma - the result of vigorous sexual activity, for example, or a trouser-zip accident.
* Infections of the genital tract this is usually accompanied by other symptoms, including pain on urination, scrotal tenderness or swelling, groin tenderness or aching, pain on ejaculation, low back pain, fever or chills.
* Biopsy of the prostate gland, where seminal fluid is manufactured.
* In rare instances, haemospermia is secondary to cancer.
For most men, haemospermia is a one-off event. For some, though, the problem is a recurrent one for which a cause cannot be identified, despite full and thorough investigation.
Treatment/Recovery
It may necessary to refer a man with haemospermia to the local hospital urology service where a number of tests such as laboratory examination of urine and semen, ultrasound or CT scans, or even a cystourethroscopy (a telescopic examination of the inside of the urinary tract under anaesthetic) may be recommended in order to check the diagnosis.
Fortunately, in the majority of cases haemospermia is benign and self-limiting, so no specific treatment is required other than a large dose of reassurance and
advice about safer practices.
Where an underlying cause is identified - for example, infection or inflammation - specific treatment can be provided. This may involve a course of antibiotics or anti-inflammatory medication.
found this online when I was checking it out for myself hope it helps

hi- thought i'd write a reply to a couple of the cases here. this thread is a bit old but hopefully that's becoz the suffers got better like is so common with this ailment....it comes (so to speak)....you wait....it goes away.
anyway this first happened to me when i was about 16. there was blood in my semen....very red (which i was told meant fresh, if it is darker it is older and probably from further back- for example the prostate- red means it's closer to the testicles and possibly even in your urethra.) then when i peed after, there were clots where this blood had coagulated and got pushed out with my pee. i was hidiously embarrased but went for some tests (all absolutely painless for anyone worried- the prostate one was a bit uncomfortable and the one for kidneys you get injected with a warm dye and get an xray....but no pain....i actually had a prostate exam infront of a room full of student doctors but that's another story! i hear these trials build character! ;0 back to the point- all my tests were fine, they tested my pee for blood and white blood cells (to rule out a urinary or kidney infection) fine and they tested my man juice for traces of the same- again by the time i had these exams i was okay and a month had passed so whatever had happened seemed like it had gone away. during growth spurts heamatospermia is common so i forgot about it....
i am now 29 and this has happened about another five times. after it happens i tend to abstain from sex or burping the worm for about a week...then try once every 3 or 4 days or so...usually after a month it goes away and i can go back to normal. my sex drive is high and so rough sex crops up from time to time...or prolonged bouts and this doesn't really seem to cause it aslong as i'm not y'know putting my nuts in a vice or something!
for anyone with a similar pattern to mine my tips to you are...
1)always give it a week or so before popping your pringles...time to heal.....
2) dont worry about it- i find the attitude of right here we go again, abstain- eat healthy, plenty of early nights helps to heal it, rather than worrying and stressing. go to the doc again if you need reassurance- no matter how often- we pay for that nhs!
3)wear closer fitting boxers or even briefs. this, i think, has helped support my spuds and i think was one of the easiest but most effective factors for me.
3) improve your diet. helps to prevent any sort of inflammation or infection. includes drinking plenty of water to keep the pipes in tip top condition. vit c with those bioflouvins or whatever they're called is also suggested to help run your urinary system and blood vessels.
4) monitor the things you think could be a problem- you could beat the meat too much, have too rough sex, certain positions in sex may cause it, are you lifting bad at work? does it happen when you are stressed or extra tired? find your pattern by making a change to one factor at a time. then if it doesn't work and comes back- hey find another thing to change, approach this as what it is- a problem, they all have a cause no matter how rare or small- you'll find yours or the sympotms that cause it anyway. then you can manage it positively.
5) try using anti inflams- i use 400mg and they also seem to aid healing in my case- suggesting to me that in my case it is not so much some sort of infection as some sort of swelling or inflamation possibly caused by a simple stressed eric vessel bust!
To people who have had this for the first time- try not to worry...yes your junk is bleeding but it doesn't necessarily mean you have cancer or that it's broken or you wont be able to have kids or sex or whatever! the tests are on the most part painless and its best to go to the doc and have them done- it also helps your mind start to think more about healing and less about freaking out- which genuinely aids healing!
i may never know the true cause of my condition but i try and remain positive- there are other people with worst afflictions and mine literally is self limiting...it is not common...i mean lets do the math it probably happens less than one time in a hundred.....hell easily....so that keeps me cheered when i start to worry! hope this helps
