Is this normal for a 17 month old boy to start hitting his penis. He used to explore it while changing but now he is hitting it hard and trying to take his trucks and drive over it. Is this normal emploring or should I be concerned?

Hi there,
I am not sure if this is normal. I know that children at his age do explore everything around them and on them. So it is not rare to see that your son is playing with his penis. But to be honest I never heard that child is hitting his penis and hurting himself deliberately. Mu suggestion would be to try to work with him on stopping this or if you are not able to do so, take him to the doctor or other professional that will be able to help you with your son’s problem. I hope that he won’t hurt himself too much during this period and that he will stop soon.
Best wishes,
Marco

My 15 month old started hitting his penis a couple months ago. It concerns me cause I don't remember my other two sons doing this. I know they pulled em to see what it was but he takes off his diaper, thrusts it out and starts smacking away. Or if im changing his diaper he will grab his testicles and squeeze. Should I take him to a doctor cause he don't stop?

My 18 month old started doing this recently. Hitting it with toys or driving over it with cars. Sometimes he would punch it with a grimace face like he was in discomfort. We also noticed he waa a little red around his balls and penis. We took him to the pediatrician and they diagnosed a bacterial infection, I think she said yeast? But cannot recall now. Said it was very common. Prescribed some ointment which resolved the redness within a couple days and he stopped hitting it.
I continued the ointment 3 times a day as prescribed for about 4-5 days. About 48 hours after i stopped, the skin got red again and he started grabbing at it again.. Started the ointment again and again it cleared up. Now a few days later its back again!
Im going to try the ointment for longer, maybe 2 weeks.. But Im concerned it keeps coming back. If it happens again Ill have to take him back.
Anyway, check your sons junk carefully for signs of irritation or redness.

Our son for nearly 8months now (he's 17months) pulls his penis by gripping it hard in his fist and also claws at it quite aggressively Moreno than smacking it. He also digs his nails into his bum cheeks grips as hard as he can then rips his hands away in a spring-like release. It has caused us great concern and I've attempted talking to him and teaching him to gently explore his body however nothing. In the past 3 months his genitals and bum are covered in bits and red marks. Even right now fresh out of the shower with him and he's playing with a closed tube of moisturiser and just started stabbing his genital area really quickly with the pointy end of the tube. There's definitely something down there that he is not happy with we just don't see it. No rashes just the marks he's causing himself. Having read some of these previous responses I'm now considering he maybe has an infection... But for all this time? He is otherwise a super healthy baby. He was emergency c section and so missed out on his mother's vaginal flora so we've had him on a strong probiotic (dose appropriate) since birth (now that I think about it, up until the point we noticed his behaviour mentioned here). At 17months he's never been to a GP and never had antibiotics or medication. Couple of colds and 2 fevers which we treated homeopathivally and with natural minerals and only organic all grown foods. Any update info from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Same.
My baby is 10months and he has been smacking it, sometimes super hard and I'd have to hold his hand.
I know it's been over a year on this comment, but have you found out why your child is doing this?
