I am 24 and not sexually active, but my birth control is making me so nauseous and even sometimes causing me to vomit. This feeling will often continue through the day. I've tried taking less of the placebo pills, as my doctor directed, but even a couple weeks of constant birth control medicine, the problem continues. I eat healthy and regularly, but the problem hasn't stopped or lessened, I think it may have even gotten worse. I plan to go to my doctor ASAP, but I want to know what may be going on, so I can go in informed. The birth control is called Lutera and I wonder if it might be too strong. Is it too strong for me? If so, which hormone might be too strong? What can I do to stop this from happening? What can I do to temporarily solve the problem until I can get an appointment with my doctor?

Hi Desperate,
I found that taking vitamins really stabilized me when I started using birth control. Try WomentoWomen.com. Also, extra B helps.
I still get nausea when I'm on the placebo (like today!). I find that if I eat more during placebo week, and if I'm careful to take extra B in addition to womentowomen, I can function normally.
Good luck!

i was told by my doctor that being nausous for up to 3 months when on the pill is normal.
if symptoms persist though, you should talk to your doctor and maybe switch pills.

how long have you been on this pill. side effects are generally said to be strongest for the first 3 months. if you haven't been on it that long, try to stick it out until the end of the fourth month and things might improve. other wise you may need a new prescription.

I totally agree with this advice because I know and it's a really bad situation but I know that when you are on a new contraceptive that it takes your body and your hormones awhile to adjust and it sucks but it's the reality of the situation. I know that this was posted awhile ago but if you are still around and still active on the boards I'd like to hear how you're doing now because it sounds like you were pretty miserable at the time. How are things?

Hi,
side affects from the pill can last up to three months. Ans i agree with previous posters that you should wait for three months to end and then see if you still have problems. If You decide to switch to another pill you have to know that your body will need to adjust hormones level.

I have been on birth control pills for about 4 years now. During the first week of each pack I still get sick especially from the 1st pill in the new pack. I'll get really hot, feel very sick to my stomach, sometimes throw up, and usually can't eat that morning because i'm so sick. They switched my b.c. about 2 years ago to a lower dose, but it still happens.

Which birth control are you taking? I think that sometimes it's just a matter of what you're taking. Is there anything that you can switch to? Different brands are often different hormones. What do you think?

I've started birth control recently and I just want you to know you are definately not alone. I've been feeling sick every morning for the past week and I threw up for the first time in 6 years this morning at about 4. My doctor says to just give it some time. Maybe you shold talk to your doctor about getting a lower dosage.

I take Nortrel 1/35 which is a sub for Ortho-Novum 1/35.
I was told that if I pretty much only feel sick the one day I shold stick with this kind since there are others that could give me different / worse side effects.
