I have been on Nuvaring for about a year, and I have gained 10 pounds and went up a full cup size! My periods got a lot better though...less PMS, less cramping, shorter, and much less moodiness...now if I could just get rid of this 10 pounds!

Is that true? I'm on the Patch right now and I've had two abnormal paps with cervical cell changes, which they think is related to HPV. I have also had now two colposcopies, so they could take a closer look at the changes. And both times it was found as only mild cell changes (CIN 1 to be more specific). But now that you say that, I really do wonder if the Patch is maybe causing the cell changes. True I could have HPV but dang...I've only had two effing partners in my entire life!

I have thought about switching from the Patch for that reason. Also I've been on it now for two years and have seemed to gain about 5-10 lbs. The first year I didn't notice much change in my weight, but after the first year I slowly started to gain about 5 lbs or so. And this was without much change in my diet or exercise.

Also it's summer now and the Patch seems to peel up easily in the water when I'm swimming. I'd like to try Nuvaring cuz it seems to have a good rap (unlike the Patch) and it seems it would stay in during sex and physical activities like exercising and swimming. Hopefully I'll loose weight on it too.

I've been on hormonal BC of some kind for 11 years and NuvaRing (2 years now) is the best. No ish side effects and no complaints from other parties. I did gain 30 lbs and 2 cup sizes 6 months after starting on it (which have remained stable), but that was due to coming off an eating disorder, not to the ring.

Just a brief history about my lifestyle: Vegetarian, daily power yoga practitioner, creative, happy, kind, giving, healthy, surrounded by wonderful people...very grateful. I don't take any medications. Then, my OBGYN scared me into trying the nuva ring rather than my usual condoms. Well, it's been 2 months since I've started the NR, and slowly, I've turned into an unreasonable b***h. Along with non-stop eating, which is VERY unusual for me. It's almost as if my stomach stopped communicating with my brain (one night I ate 3 PB&J's, a bag of almonds, 3 glasses of soy milk, a bagel, a whole avocado...I'm sure there was more, and I was still hungry!). I've gained 10 pounds in a month, and I was the same weight for the last 6 years. Along with these side effects, I've experienced: Itchy legs, biting my tongue, nasty mood swings, crying for no reason, water retention, lack of passion, lack of creativity, wanting to isolate myself from everyone, vaginal discharge, clotting during my period, giant painful breasts, headaches, tiredness. There needs to be an awareness of the effects of this product. It took me 2 months to make the connection. I'm grateful it didn't take longer. I'm ready to get my life back. I just took the NR out today. Who knows how the detox process will turn out? Wish me luck!

I started Nuvaring almost one week ago. As soon as I got home from my gyno I searched online for side effect and noted that many women had weight gain. I was totally freaked out. I almost took it out but my husband told me to give it a few days since everyone is different and I have never had weight problem on other BC (pills). Also, I am bad about remembering to take pills; hubby has to remind me almost overnight. Since starting Nuvaring here is what I have experienced:

1. Strange mood changes: Not extreme, but I am aware of how irritated I can get and a slightly depressed outlook. PS. I've never had "depressed" thoughts. So I noticed this side effect quickly.
2. Slight weight loss: I have not changed diet or exercise but have lost 2 lbs.
3. MAJOR Bowl discomfort/Frequent bowl movements: This is the worst side effect so far. I eat very healthy, i.e. lots of greens, so I am use to have around 2 bowl movements a day. I am now having 4+ a day.

Has anyone else had this type of extreme bowl movement increase?

Been on the ring for a few days. I had terrible mood swings and depression with BC pills so my gyno told me to try Nuvaring. She said that a smaller percentage of women complained of moodiness but those who did, had more severe side effects. So I figure if i'll notice if anything bothers me.

One thing that I did notice was that I have lost weight. About 4 lbs in the past 3 days. Most of this is probably because I have had such terrible diarrhea that there's left nothing in me (tmi, sorry). My appetite is non existent as well.

So we'll see!

Like so many other women here, I have also gained an annoying 10 lbs. I have been on Nuva Ring for 10 months to a year now. The first month or two I thought I might be loosing weight, but then the pounds keeped adding up. It's been harder and harder to get them off. I'm a pretty good eater and I work out pretty regularly. I think I've gone up 1 1/2 sizes in the past year! So depressing! Another bad side effect I'm having is headaches. About a day or two after I take the ring out I will get a headache that will last me the whole week - until I put a new one in. They are getting better with each month that passes, but it's still unpleasant. My libido is also low, but I'm starting to think that my body does that with birth control (Loestrin Fe also had that effect).

The good thing about Nuva Ring is my skin looks awesome. I'm in my late 20's and still get occassional breakouts, but with the ring my skin is flawless! My period only last a day or two at the most so that is a plus. No mood swings. I do feel tired more easily but not sure if that's from the ring. All in all it's a pretty good alternative to taking a pill if you forget to take it like I do. No breakthrough bleeding for me. It does have it's side effects like most hormonal pills. I never gained weight or believed that you could gain weight with birth control, but this one I have. I guess I'll just have to step up my workout routine if I want to lose weight. Don't think I'll go back to taking a pill everyday...

I have been on nuvaring for the past year and a half and just stopped taking it last week. 3 months after starting the ring I gained 45 pounds within 4 months! I was 120 in July by Thanksgiving I was was 165, I felt like I was going up a dress size every two weeks. I feel so disgusted and like I don't even recognize myself! I developed high blood pressure, last I checked when I was on it my blood pressure was 158/104 and I had developed insulin resistance which is probably why I gained so much weight in such a short amount of time. My period was also much heavier and I had fairly large blood clots which I had never had before. I hope that my body will return to normal because as of right now my doctor wants me to take meds to lower both my insulin and blood pressure which I don't really want to do. I hope this helps anyone out there who may feel that something is going on with their body that shouldn't be talk to your doctor!, I wish I hadn't waited so long to put the puzzle pieces together, I just hope to get by body back to the way it should.

I have been on Nuvaring for only about 2-3 weeks and I have lost 15lbs. My appetite is practically gone now along with my cravings that I always had for sweets and greasy foods. At first I wasn't eating anything but I would force myself because I knew my body needed the nutrition. So I figured out a way to use the Nuvaring to my advantage and still be healthy. I'm on a brown rice diet full of vegetables and delicious fruit! So I'm not missing the old crappy food, losing weight, and my body is getting the nutrients that it needs. I make sure that I'm putting the right things in and getting everything that I need. Another bonus? I've noticed I've gained a lot more energy and my mood is noticeably happier! Getting up early in the morning is nowhere near as hard as it used to be for me too. As far as Nuvaring as a birth control? It's wonderful! I don't feel it, crapping is gone, it's so easy to use and I'm still not pregnant! And I say that with full confidence because I've taken the rest of them and they have all been terrible on my body. The Depo was the worst, the pill (many different kinds) was almost as bad and I've gotten pregnant on both. Nuvaring is the winner for me and I hope it works as well for other women as it has me! Good luck to everyone else on their quest to find the one that works for them! :-D

i stopped nuva- ring about 8 months ago due to a loss of insurance. over that 8 months i gained around 25- 30lbs. needless to say, now that i again have insurance i'm getting my Rx filled today! while i was on the ring i did lose weight (then i was around 150 and dropped to around 140 and i'm 5'9), and had much more energy.
so i'm hoping for the same results getting back on the ring. in my non-professional opinion the ring is a lifesaver for women who emotionally eat like myself (and 2 other friends of mine) it takes the focus off food and totally balanced out my mood swings around my period which was always the times i found myself emotionally eating.

I don't know. I've always been quite thin...and i cannot stop gaining weight with nuvaring! I went from about 95 lbs. to 110 in two months. I know that I'm eating more but I just get so hungry that I can't concentrate on my work. I must say, it's very frustrating. My boobs have also skyrocketed in size. Basically none of my clothes fit anymore, not even the bras. I'm getting off at the end of this ring cycle (just one more week to go). Have people who have experienced significant weight gain been able to lose the weight after getting off the ring?

I have been on NuvaRing for two months now. When I first started, me period was nearly two weeks long! I realize now that was actually breakthrough bleeding, but it did freak me out. However, my second period lasted about three days and was so light as to be almost non-existent. The major side effect I notice is a complete lack of appetite. I was losing weight before starting, but now the pounds are falling off. I only eat because I know I'm hungry, I can feel my stomach is empty, but the idea of food just has no appeal. Eating Thanksgiving dinner was like a chore. I also force myself to eat because I don't want people to think there's something wrong with me. As for emotional side effects, I do cry a lot, but I am sure that is because of certain personal issues I am dealing with (since I was crying a lot before I started NuvaRing). Another bonus, my skin, while not perfect, has improved noticably. And NuvaRing definitely works in regard to birth control. Even sex during what would my fertile period did not result in fertilization. All in all, as long as I can afford it, I will keep using it.

I've been on NuvaRing for 2 years already. As I remember I started the ring when I was around 160 lbs after couple months I gained about 10 lbs. I didn't think that it was because of the ring that I gained weight, so I started to get on my diet plan a year later with no salt no sugar and no oil and eat so little on each meal a day. I loose about 15 lbs in a month. But right away after I stop dieting, I gain it all back plus some more. In total I gain about 20 lbs so far after my diet in a year. I never suspected the nuvaring for my weight gain at all as I never been a small girl. But after I read all the comments about weight gain on nuvaring make me think of my eating habit in the past 2 years which I eat a lot more than I used to, I crave food all the time. One more thing that my bf point out for me is that my mood swing a lot. He said that I used to be a sweet happy girl, but right now I get angry very easily and actually all the time. So right now I really think about get off nuvaring for a while to see if anything going to changed. Wish me luck!
