I've been having blood only when having sex. Last time I went in to get the shot the nurse said it was probably just because my boyfriend would be knocking the old blood down and would stop soon. But the past week it's been happening a lot and with bright colored blood. I talked to a nurse on the phone today and she thought it could be from a possible blood disorder. Does anyone else not bleed much when cut, or have their fingers pricked? I'm going to the doctor this week so hopefully I'll know the cause.

I wish there was a proper answer for this. I have been on the depo for about 3 years, I have never had trouble with bleeding, my periods almost instantly stopped once starting the shots, as they should. But last week I noticed spotting, and today I noticed it has become a lot heavier. Also I have noticed my sex drive has increased (which is strange because it is usually quite low due to the injection). I'm thinking that maybe the nurse didn't inject me properly and it hasn't stuck or something. I'm due for my next injection on Monday. I hope that is nothing scary like being pregnant, because I am certainly not the mothering type. Has anyone had this happen? What was the cause?

Everyone who's bleeding after being on depo for so long shouldn't freak out. Sometime after sex it puts pressure in you so you will end up leaking old blood because you don't have periods.

For one you had not been on depo that long two they say still use a condom while on it so I would go to the doc and find out if your pregnant cus pregnancy on depo can make for birth defects

I've been on depo for two years now & I bled up until about 6 months ago when they changed the dosage and where they gave it.  I used to bleed during and after sex. The past few days I started bleeding again but really heavy this time and lots of pain. I feel sick when I eat at times and lots of the same symptoms. I think all this is normal for the shot because its happened to most of us. Seeing this I'm considering switching because I can't handle this much longer! But, it also sounds terrible getting off of it. Any suggestions???

I've been on depo since, I'm assuming, around mid-July, and haven't done anything sexual since a few months before. I had, at the time, just gotten off of my period, and the doctor who gave me the shot ran a pregnancy test. I'd gone until the second week in August without my period, and now the second week in September, almost a month later, I'm still having abnormally heavy flow. At times it's breakthrough bleeding. And there's no way that I could've been pregnant, or could be. =/

Oh, and I haven't started taking any other medication, until yesterday, and that was just cold medicine.

It is very common to not ovulate and not have a cycle for about 6-9 months after your last shot.

kind of same situation, not had period in nearly 8yrs just turned 30.Seen nurse today as started bleeding last week for 4days.got swobs and smear done.Got asked when bleedin had stopped said sun.But as was gettin this done started bleedin again, when got up white sheet of paper coverded in blood.Got told the swob results would be in next week but smear ones can take up to 4 to 6 weeks.Got told usually if swobs dont show up nothing then they dont contact u as its all clear. But i got advised to make an appointment for wed for doc to give me results.Which is really unuasall. As leaving she said it would be more than lightly i would need to attend hosp for futher tests. The exact thing happened to my mum 2yrs ago,it was cervical cancer, she had to have opp, then chemo and unfortuntly radiotheropy.Shes as fitvas fiddle now.Cant beleive going through same situo 2yrs on,best thing to do is see gp asap,no its scarery but better sooner than later, think about how ur kids would feel if u left it and something were to happenen.Just think how jade goodys kids must be feeling. So get it sorted .

Hi,

l've been on depo for almost 18 years? I stopped getting my period and haven't had on in at least 17 years? The first year of depo was a little rough, but most of what you all are describing is just normal and it does go away? It's very hard to get pregnant on depo? I went off depo five years ago because I was I'll and the hospital won't give it to meto I was off for 6 months with no period? Which has been nice? Not having a period this long and no symptoms of a cycle.  Unfortunately, recently I started to have some break through bleeding? Just wondering if anyone else has been on depo as long as me and if so, have you had break through periods after not having one for a decade? Just wondering if its normal? Can't find anyone who has been on it as long as I have? And there is no articles about depo and long term use and side effects?

Okay, so, I've been on Depo for nearly 4 years now, it will be in June (also, I will be 18 in July and have never had any issues with hormones or cramping or my period before the shot) and I spotted some when I was first on it but after maybe a few months my period competely stopped. Up until about a year ago I hadn't experience any sort of period whatsoever and even then it was spotting due to a first time in a while, long 'love session'. After that I had no issues other than aches in what seems to be my bones, but I figured that was normal with the whole bone marrow thing. Then I began cramping after sex, there again, never had cramps in my life even when I did bleed regularly. Now, here within the past week or so I've been having I guess 'breakthrough bleeding'? -Thick-ish, dark, spotting and cramps randomly. I was somewhat worried I'd be prego, but I'm sure I'm not. You don't bleed when you're pregnant right? I also go to the health department for my shots and I'm due this coming Tuesday and am most likely going to get put on the pill, but the health dept. ladies don't really care about my health problems when I ask; they are not helpful at all. So, if ANYONE knows ANYTHING about what might be going on, it would be extremely appreciated.
