It's day 11 post op for me and my BM's still feel like I've been stabbed in the anus and the knife is slowly being pulled outwards!!
The bath is my retreat and place to heal, on the plus side there was no blood in today's stools so I'm def healing but now it's just a matter of time.
Does anyone else feel as though they have a cut on their anus, other then the feeling of having a slit/tear/cut then I would almost be recovered but this cut seems stubborn about healing.
I've been using coconut oil in 1 of my sitz baths on the morning and that helps produce a barrier for less painful BM's and I constantly apply it throughout the day when it feels stingy, dry or itchy down there, seems to work well. Xx

How are you feeling now around the three week mark? I'm nearly at the 2 week mark myself and have a 4 year old daughter to take care of, she's been really sweet and nurturing and I can look after her now as the pain has eased a lot but still not quite healed. Xx

I had my surgery 2days ago and the pain is unbearable especially when you have to be careful what to take for pain killers that doesn't give you constipation as well.
Remember when sitting in warm bath to add some salt water by itself considered irritating.
I used hot baths and cold pads by using baby diapers pour some water in and put it in the freezer that helps too.
Yesterday night was horrible it's my first BM I had to put cold pads after the BM because of that burning pain.
I feel for all of you suffering we need to have hope it will last few days

I had the surgery two days ago and I wanted to comment to help people in the future with this problem. I read this post right before pooping for the first time after the surgery and it scared me. The truth is that pooping did hurt, but it wasn't nearly the pass out on the floor pain described above. We're all different. I was really nervous, but what I did that helped is to make sure my poop was really soft by taking stool softener 3-4x a day (with laxatives because I've been constipated due to the hydrocodone I've been taking), fiber rich foods of split pea soup and activia yogurt, and Metamucil 3x a day. I went on a walk about 45 min before with some upper body twists to help with my constipation and digestion. I took my painkiller, 600 mg of liquid gel ibuprofen, and used the topical numbing and pain killing ointment my doctor prescribed about 15 min before. I sat in a sitz bath and pooped directly into the warm water. I added some mixture from Amazon that has lavender and Epsom salts. Okay, so yes pooping did hurt, but it hurt about the same as it's been hurting anyway to poop due to the hemorrhoids that we're there before the surgery. Possibly even a bit less. There was a lot less blood than I had before the surgery too, even though it's only been a few days! But the pain didn't linger for hours afterwards, which I read happened for others. It just basically hurt while pooping. Hope this helps. I've heard this surgery is way worth it in the end! Get it, in the end? :)

I am typing this as I am in a warm bath. It’s day 3 of my post hemorrhoidectamy. I only had two bowl movements and the first one wasn’t that bad. But yesterday’s bowl movement was absolute hell. I’ve never squeezed a stress ball like that before lol. Warm baths do help and I’ve realized that you shouldn’t force your bowl movements. Instead rather go to the bathroom if you feel like it’s going to pop right out. And when you do finally have a bowl movement it shouldn’t hurt that bad because you’ve hopefully had many fluids. It still is going to hurt like hell though lol. Good luck to everybody who’s feeling the same pain as me. May our bums be at peace!

Figured I'd share my horror story and advice. I wish I had been given ALOT of this advice before my surgery 23 days ago. I wasn't told to take stool softeners before surgery. I wish I had been. As far as. Handling pain, I like to think I can usually handle it pretty well. Broke my ankle once, and drove myself to the hospital using the clutch. Had 12 stitched put in my foot once with NO numbing meds. I handled it OK. That said, here goes.
I had the surgery to remove 2 external and 3 internal hemmys. While having the surgery, the surgeon found scare tissue from previous issues, as well as a fistula that was developing. All was corrected at one time. Leaving the hospital I was fine from the drugs, but within a couple of hrs I was in bad pain, but meds did help take the edge off.. Had my first bm the day after surgery. I had to do it in the tub, and literally passed out from the pain! It was absolutely horrible. Within 4 days I had broken several stitches, and had one for sure come out whole. Let's just say the first week was Hell and the second week was a slightly less horrible version of hell. However, on week 3 things actually seem to be moving along. I still have pain during BM, like tiny razors are cutting me, some blood, and have recently started having the stinky fluid drainage issue. I can walk around pretty good now, although it is uncomfortable at times. Specially after a BM. I still can't return to work as I am a driver, but look to be returning to work soon. I honestly wish I had waited until the new year to do this surgery when I could have afforded to take the time off!!
So, if your having your bum "rebuilt" as much as I did, definitely start a diet change several days BEFORE the surgery. Include the fibre, etc. Drink lots of fluids to prevent drug constipation. Make arrangements to miss more time in case you end up needing it. Invest heavily in Epson salt, and make sure you have a good supply of hot water. Do not use toilet paper. I found better relief using chemical free wet wipes, then hit shower to rinse, then hot tub to soak. Doc suggested a more substantial diet than the oatmeal, fruits, soft veggies etc I had been eating. Well, Do not change your diet to normal too early as it will set you back, trust me. I am currently back on the low fat and high fiber diet and will stay there until I can have BM with no blood and pain.
