I had a two level foraminotomy at C-5 6 C-67 in 1996. I was in severe pain for about a week. When the surgical pain subsided, i was left w/tightness in my neck, which was manageable. It took about 2 years for me to feel relatively normal. At that time i began taking extra strength Glucosamine/chondroitin. I felt the supplement start workin within one week. My original surgery was in 1996. I've had several mri's since and until 2008 the mri's all indicated "No significant changes". The discs, though degenerated and narrowed for years, have remained the same. Also, the osteophytes had remained the same w/no further enhancement. The moral of this is to get on Glucosamine asap..Don't listen to the dr.s that laugh at gluc. I"m living proof that it does help...

I am also new to this site and am impressed with how much knowledge everyone has. Had back surgery in 06 with laminectomy. time went by and then "it" started. I began having weakness and pain in my legs. I was seeing pain management. they said I did not need an mri and continued to give me non narcotic meds. fast forward to this year. a couple months ago I started having excruciating pain in my legs with superimposed cramp like pain. I may be nuts but the pain worsens with constipation. its almost as if my legs cannot stand any pressure. these last few weeks and 2 hospital visits later. a ct revealed that I don't have cauda equin SP but are very close to it. went to my family dr. who did rorder an mri where I was told to run, not walk to an orthopedic surgeon. briefly, I was told I had to have surgery on my neck(cervical) , recover and have a refusion on my lumbar spine., but first I have to quit smoking, wait 3 weeks and start. wow, its not the quitting that scares me, its the amount of time until surgery. I am in horrible pain, can barely walk, drive or even dress myself. im due to see a neurosurgeon the 24th of April. Im drowning here, can anyone help? thank you
