If you are on a pill and if you are taking it regularly (every day at the same time) then you shouldn’t worry as the pill is the most effective reversible contraceptive currently available. If you stop taking pills, you will not ovulate the next ten days. Also, if you missed one pill, you should take another one the sooner the better and the second one at the exact time the following day but in that case you are not 100 % safe and you should use some backup method for birth control, such as condoms, or foam. When you are on a pill, periods are short and you may see no fresh blood at all. Sometimes this brown discharge you mentioned to have could be considered a period so you shouldn’t worry. But if you are still in doubts, you can always do a home pregnancy test, the right results could be shown a few days after you were to have your period. Also, it is useful to mention that the effectiveness of the pill is lowered when they are taken with some other medications and in that case you should also consider adding a backup method of birthcontrol.
