My friend has been experiencing some muscle weakness lately. Doctors suspect on polymyositis. I would like to find out what is necessary for diagnosing this disorder. I hear that EMG and muscle biopsy are needed. Is this true information? Is there anything else that needs to be done? I would like to know.

Hello, there. Polymyositis is a disease of muscle fibers. This is an inflammatory and autoimmune disease. The first step is clinical examination. These people usually complain on muscle weakness. EMG (electromyography) is one of the methods that are necessary to be done. Enzymes in blood can also give us some information. Muscle biopsy is the only method that can give a 100% accurate diagnosis. I hope this helps. Bye!
