I have been experiencing lately some muscle weakness in my legs. Doctor suspects on polymyositis and he wants to do a blood test. I really don’t know what this is all about and what he expects to find in my blood. Are those some enzymes that are characteristic for muscles? What do you think?

Yes, they are known as CKs. Clinically, creatine kinase(CK) is assayed in blood tests as a marker of myocardial infarction (heart attack), rhabdomyolysis (severe muscle breakdown), muscular dystrophy and other forms of myositis, and in acute renal failure.
There are many other tests that need to be done to be sure it is really polymyositis: electromyogram and muscular biopsy are the two that are the most specific. Other tests are done to eliminate the other diseases that cause muscle weakness.
