I'm going to have fusion surgery on my c-4-c-7. I was told they would be fused with titanium metal and cadaver. I was told I would not be able to return to work for ~1 month. I know everyone has different recovery levels and times, but what might I expect from the surgery, and could you give me does and don'ts for post surgery!

Well, Your doctor told you what I think is normal. 1 month for returning to work and I now believe that the less you wear the collar the better. Read ithe stories in here and you will see that I think. Ask your doctor about it. The do's and don'ts are strictly for your doctor to say. Follow his instructions to a Tee!

I would only add to Robert's message by the echo(ing) of following the intructions of your surgeon. As far as your job goes, it depends. I (used) to drive a semi, but I can not any more. Not my doctor's choice but by mine. I drive one two weeks ago, didn't feel very good to climb up and bounce in it. I drove it only about 200 yards. What is your job? This will have a more profound effect on returning. C4-C7, that is a lot of levels, you may not be able to go back to work. I had C4/5,C5/6 taken out and the two above are buldging. I asked to have them all done at once and my surgeon said it would render me 50%+ disabled. No possibilities of returning to driving. Good Luck to you

Tom,

It is good to hear how your doing. People need/want to see how your story has done since it has taken a fairly good path. I am happy your firm has found another possition for you. I'm struggling.

Thanks for returning.
