Proton pump inhibitors are used to for treating stomach ulcers and the well known is omeprazole (Losec). There are lots of acids in your stomach to help you digest food. The drug your father has taken probably has increased the production of the acids and they have caused the ulcer. Proton pump inhibitors help completely blocking production of stomach acid.
