I need to know about this thing metformin that I have to take.  I have been on it 3 months but I don't know.... I feel like my sugars are too low now.  I have a fasting of 90 in the mornings and my dinner bg is around 104 or so.  I think this is too low.  Should I ask my GP to reduce my metformin or not?  I feel like it is the likely suspect in this.  I don't think I feel right on this medication but maybe if I just tapered off of it, I will be ok.  What do you think?  I want to have control of my blood sugars but I don't want to feel weird all the time either.  I am eating what I am suppose to on my diet but I still don't think it is helping as far as giving me energy.  I don't feel like doing much of anything.  I sit around and watch t.v. or I am on facebook.  I don't get out to do anything but shop for groceries.  I need to get my energy back!

Your blood sugars sound like they are great.  You are within the parameters of the appropriate blood glucose readings so that is really good news.  It could be that you have other issues going on.  Perhaps you are low on iron, or anemic.   This would be worth checking into if you are feeling that you don’t have the energy that you should.  Your doctor can order a set of blood work to see if all of your blood values are normal.  If there is a problem, it will show up here.  You may discuss with your doctor if you feel you will benefit from cutting back on your metformin.  He can determine if your blood sugars would stay normal if you cut your metformin dosage in half.
