Side effects of taking taking enbrel and methotrexate?

Since I have been taking Enbrel I have actually lost 35 lbs and my appetite is way down. Good luck!! It really has changed my life I couldn't walk before Enbrel.

Please, please don't be afraid to try methotrexate and enbrel at the same time, if you are like me with an agressive case of rheumatiod then you know that if one medication isn't working it means that you are getting joint damage and that shouldn't happen.  The methotrexate, depending on the dose, can have small side effects like just nausea and fatigue, or as much as vomiting and loss of appetite, but if you are on enbrel at the same time it should be fine because they won't need to put you on that high a dose.  I am younger than sixteen and have been taking enbrel for six months and know exactly what you mean about it not being enough and I was recently prescribed methotrexate on a low injection dose, and it is a very common thing to be on both at once, so don't let yourself keep hurting!

i have heard that it is very common tobe taking both. i was ofered it but i had a very bad reaction my white blood cells fell drematically good luck

Can anyone help em i have been through all the medications and non have worked i have been on enbrel but my simptomshave gotten a lot worse and i have become so bloated its terribly uncomfortable has anyone else found they had adverse ractions

 

I have been taking metho for several years and it can cause stomache upset, however, using the injection once a week is easier on the stomach. I have resecenlty stopped Enbrel as the sinus infections became constant and the benefits were outweighed by side effects. Enbrel helped with details, metho worked over all.

I have been taking 1 weekly injection of Enbrel. I feel great but cannot lose weight. I am not happy with the weight I have gained, but at least I don't hurt and can again do everything for myself.

I was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis in February of 2012, it came on very quickly, I have had Arthritis in my hands for quite a while but I all of a sudden had major back pain, foot pain, knee, pain, hips, hands, etc., it was crappy and it seemed like my life was going to hell in a hand basket.

The specialist put me on methotrexate 10 pills a week for now (and Folic Acid every day) and I feel like a million dollars now! I can walk, am back to competitive sailing again, I can do just about everything I could before and I can move around w/o pain. I can actually walk across a room w/o limping, w/o pain, etc., I have no side effects from the Metho, none at all, the only effect is I feel great!

The only issue I have is that I cannot drink alcohol so I haven't had a drink since February....yes I miss it but it really is a small sacrifice for feeling good! Mind you I have lost 30 pounds since then but again - no problem!

I have thought about Enbrel and the specialist has recommended trying it in conjunction with the Metho but right now I have said we'll just go with the flow!

Hi I have been on methotrexate 15 m/g weekly since 08 Sed rate was

still high about 15 VA suggested Embrel, was very reluctant ; against my better judgement went with Embrel , diagnosed with Myltiple Myeloma , blood cancer still alive 2 years next month.

For your appetite ask your Doctor about a small amount of predisone

I have just finished the 3 months of loading doses on Enbrel. I had gaind 35 lbs on Humira and, while it started to come off when I stopped the Humira, I'm stuck since I started the Enbrel. I'm hoping that once I'm only getting 1 shot a week, my metabolism will crank up a little more. My psoriasis is all but gone and my joints are much better. I did a 7 mile paddle in my kayak last week and couldn't even go this time last year.

I ALSO HAVE BEEN TAKING METHO AND ENBREL FOR A FEW YEARS. I COULD NOT DETERMINE WHY MY THROAT WAS SORE AND ALWAYS FILLED WITH PHELGM. MY CHEST SOUNDS AND FEELS LIKE A SMOKERS CHEST, HAD CT SCANS OF HEAD AND CHEST,CHEST X-RAYS, AND SEEN MANY DOCTORS. I HAD SINUS SURGERY LATELY FOR 30,000 DOLLARS AND STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH MY SINUSES. NO DOCTOR COULD FIGURE THIS OUT. DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR TO YOUR SYMTOMS.

I am in pretty much the same shape as your wife. I am taking prednisone,methotrexate, folic acid, and tomorrow he wants to start on enbrel because I am still in so much pain ,.But I also here bad side effects talk and I get 85% of all the bad side effects. I just got out of hospital because I could not keep all the meds down and it made me so sick they had to give me morphine to get rid of the stomach pain. so I have an appointment to get put on enbrel tomorrow and I am scared and dont know what to do?

I started taking enbrel after 3 months of methotextrate . The metho was helping a little , but not getting rid of all pain . When I began the enbrel in conjunction with the metho : miracle !!! It's like being a 20 year Old again ( and I'm only 40 but I felt SO decrepit prior ) . I was worried about side effects and those were crummy for about 5 weeks total ( with the metho .... No sideffects from the enbrel) . I take leucovor to counteract the metho sideffects . No weight gain / only weight loss as I take up biking , swimming , and plan to try a triathlon next year . Last year I could barely walk . I've been on the combination of metho/ enbrel / leucovor for over 6 months . Feel so much better .

I have been taking methotrexate for 6 years VA prescribed Embrel for my RA in 2010 got Multiple Myeloma after 5 weeks .Have it now for 25 months on Revlimid with Dexamethasone I was a very healthy man just RA only thing I ever had Doctors don"t understand. Read the warning side effects of Embrel and you'll understand. To answer your question Is your Doctor prescribing predisone if so that will put on a few pounds

I inject both and have for years, i came off the predisone and switched from methotrexate pills to injection. I do not use the auto injectors for enbrel because they hurt. I make sure the enbrel is room temp about 10 min, i inject in the stomach. slow. The methotrexate does not hurt. I have not had alot of infections, 2 sinus infections in 5 years. I do not go around people with colds and such. Even when i had i never got sick, wash your hands and such. Good luck

I started on the Methotrexate three weeks before starting Enbrel ,after two weeks of the meth-I started experiencing migraines headaches everyday,I have now stopped taking it,so far the Enbrel seems to be okay.I wil be seeing my RA doctor soon so I can let him know what it was doing to me.

Hi,im 14 years old i have arthitas in nearly every joint (hands,ancles,feet,jaw,wrists,knees)

i first went to the docters 3 years ago for trigger finger which turned to be arhtritas they gave me tablets to take everyday but like teens they dont take them i  forget or cant be botherd that went on for 1 year ,the consultent wanted to see me and of course she was mad i had to have steroids and a drip for three days in through my hand,they started me on 1 methrotrexate needle per week i have been having that for 2 years but there has been no improvment they have recently strted me on embrol after the first week there was a huge imporvemnet my joints wasnt stiff my hands were skinny and all my other joints ,the only thing wring with it is being without your immune system beacuse i already have a nastly one,oh and i have lost a lot of weight:)
