For several or so I have had a whole series of lumps in the left side of my neck and throat ranging in size from couple of millimetres to a centimetre. The lumps are generally round, solid and movable. In the last year or so some of these lumps have started to become painful and aching and I can sometimes feel them when I swallow or breathe deeply.

I have seen my doctor about these but he can only feel one which protrudes out from the skin slightly, and he says this is only a raised gland. The others can only be felt by pressing hard, and there are well over a dozen of them, which are there pemanently so they are certainly not glands.

Any ideas about what this might be, and what I can do about it?
