Hi! You may have an increased risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior at the start of treatment. I had it. Talk with your doctor about this risk. While you are taking paxil you will need to be monitored for worsening symptoms of depression and or suicidal thoughts during the first weeks of treatment. Your family or other caregivers should be alert to changes in your mood or symptoms. Your doctor will need to check you at regular visits for at least the first 12 weeks of treatment. Contact your doctor promptly if you have any of the following side effects, especially if they are new symptoms or if they get worse: mood changes, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, irritability, agitation, aggressiveness, severe restlessness, mania (mental and/ or physical hyperactivity), and thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself.

Hi I just quit taking Paxil after being on it for 3 months. Although I was not happy about being on it, it did help me through some very difficult times following an operation, living through a family crisis and taking care of an elderly mother. I had been having bad panic attacks that were causing my blood pressure to elevate too high and I was loosing control of life as I knew it. Paxil helped to put normalcy back into my life. I am in a much better mental state now and I quit cold turkey 10 days ago. I quit because I did find that Paxil dulled my emotions. I didn't feel life like I was used to any more. It also made me grit my teeth at night and I stopped dreaming. Now that I am off it I feel like me again, a lttle more emotional but that's what makes me me. If you have been going through times that are highly stressful and you are experiencing abnormal levels of anxiety, then definately give paxil a try. You may not need it for ever but it might help you through the bad times. Good luck. :-)

I've been on Paxil CR (controlled release) for 3 yrs or so. It is the only anti-depressent that I have been prescribed that I could take.
I found that I get along better if I take it at night instead of the morning. I feel like I'm more alert and not so groggy during the day when I do this. Also be sure to give your body time to get used to it.
