SUCCESFUL ACTIONS ON an ALMOST PAIN FREE SPHINCTERECTOMY
□ If possible get a colon cleanse one day before your surgery – or if not possible do an enema.
□ Try to eat very little, the night before (a salad with chicken or something easy to digest, as protein shakes).
□ Take a tea call organic smooth move the night before so you can make sure you empty your colon as much as possible before the operation.
□ The day of the operation the doctor will ask you not to eat nor drink anything. So follow instructions.
□ Dress on a way that your shoes are easy to put on and off, no socks, clothes that are easy to put in and out. You want to avoid too much motion. A jacket something that can open on the front and is easy to put on.
□ Have at home some kind of pillows in order to put it on your bed or couch when you arrive home (tempurpedic kind helps a lot).
□ DIET is key! When you arrive home, you might take the pain medication and want to have something in your stomach. If you have a good blender (vitamix) use it and blend two apples with water and eat some with your pain med.
□ Consider that all what comes in will have come out. I am trying Master Cleanse with which you only do a liquid diet. If you don’t want to go this way, try juicing will be better for your body. You can juice apples, kale, carrots, all veggies you like. And keep only juicing during the first week after your surgery, this will help the healing process to go faster, since your digestive system does not have to work additionally except for healing.
□ Also take the smooth tea first thing in the morning and last thing at night so you keep your bm smooth and moving. (If you need additional laxative you can use magnesium) Also if needed take additional fiber. You don’t want to make it totally loose nor constipated so do it mid term.
□ NOTE: pain medications make you constipated so try to take as little as possible. Maybe keep them for the first 2 days. Then you are on your own. You can have pain, is not as bad after all if you keep your diet tight.
□ Take this opportunity to eat healthy and maybe change to a healthier diet from now on.
□ Try to take wheat, gluten and milk products out of your diet for this week. If you want to do smoothies do them with almond, coconut milk or other options, not dairy. You can use water which is great as well.
□ Do sitz baths with warm water 4-10 times a day or any more times that you need to. They are amazing because the sooth the little pain and they help you heal faster. Dry with a towel very lightly afterwards.
□ One thing I am using that is magical on healing the wounds is wheat grass cream (you can go on amazon and buy it). Just put it on the wound and it will help you help soooo much faster. You can put it after you do a sit bath.
□ Also sit baths will help you with pain after your bm’s. And help you relax.
□ Try it and see how you feel after the week of recovery.
NOTES on OPERATION:
□ I commit the mistake of going into the internet for advice on what to eat or not to eat. But instead it gave me so much anxiety after reading the sites of many people. Truthfully if you do it right, it can be easier than you think. One of the only advices that helped me was the one of an athlete. He did this operation prior to 72 hours of doing an ironman race. He really got my hopes up. And thanks to that one I decided to write this to YOU, so hopefully can help. Having a positive mental attitude is 80% of the experience.
□ The operation was a breeze. Truthfully you go in, they put you a needle in the arm to get the catheter. No pain, just a pinch. And you don’t see if you don’t want to. After that they take you to operation room and start putting the anesthesia so you go to sleep. Next thing you know, you are on recovery area. You don’t feel anything due to anesthesia.
□ When anesthesia starts wearing out, you might feel pain, but take your pain med as soon as possible after operation, so you don’t even feel this.
□ Then keep meds as prescribe per doctor try to keep it minimum, and you will be alright sleeping the majority of the time. And then keep your diet tight and that would take care of the pain as well.
NOTES on first BM:
□ Don’t listen to this horrific stories, while you are under meds the pain is not that unbearable. Again keep your diet tight and you will barely feel it.
□ On my own personal experience, I had it the night of the surgery and did not though it was a bm because I barely felt it, though it was liquid after the operation. Next morning I needed to have a bm, was in expectation of the pain, and my surprise not pain.
□ Again keep your diet tight, drink a lot of water, once you are voiding normally. And keep your sit baths as well in. If you add a little bit of wheat grass cream will really help you recover faster.
I am personally doing the Master Cleanse, due to the fact that I wanted to let my intestine recover faster without food, and is working amazingly! No pain, very bearable and I am not hungry, which really did not wanted to be since what comes in, must come out.
I hope this helps you with your experience.
Good Luck! You are going to be fine, and from here on out it will just go better and better! You are changing to a no pain life!
