Hello everyone! I'm Piyush,26,male this side from New Delhi, India. I had a Grade II & Grade III internal external haemorroid. Although, I must have had them for a long but they never really bothered me much as compared to the past few months. Upon seeing a few surgeons I had come to a conclusion that inorder to feel better I have to get the
surgery done. I choosed the Stapling surgery method/ PPH method against the other methods of surgery as I had seen other methods are very painful and the recovery is also on the longer path with high degrees of pain. Even, the surgeons suggested the PPH as they told is comparitively less painful and also the recovery time is short.

I had my suregery scheduled on 27 Nov 2008. I got myself admitted in the hospital on the very same day morning. The nurses conducted the routine tests of blood, urin & blood pressure. Since, I was on fasting from 26 Nov afternoon the put me with a bottle of glucose, dextrose and some other stuff. All of these were put when I was on the operation table. I entered the OT around 3.30pm and was given a spinal anesthisa at 3.35pm. The anesthisa kicked in a few seconds and then I was lying on the table for the docs to perform their job. I was awake for a few minutes and was able to see the docs performing on me thru a reflection on the celing. Although it was a blury image but still I could make out the docs cleaning me thoroughly with some medicine which I suppose was Iodine. Well then I dozzed off and woke up after a few mins later only to find myself still on the operation table shivering like a hell and then 1
of the docs saying to me that its almost done and went fine.
When I reached to the recovery room I saw the time, it was 4.55pm.I stayed there for close to an hour and the surgeon who had operated on me came over and said the surgery was absolutely fine but he had to cut an external skin tag else would have caused problems later on. I knew I had a tag/lump of skin so I fine with what he said. Then I was moved to my room by 6pm. Since, the anesthsia effect was still in there I couldnt feel a thing but gradually I was able to move my legs a lil bit. Before this ansthesia effect fadded away Iwas injected with a pain killer Vovron
injection. Vovron did its job and kept me almost pain free but its effect gradually started to fade away & then I was in pain again by say 12.30 am on 28 Nov. Although on a pain scale of 1-10 I was at a scale of 7 which was tolerable but u cant sleep with it. I tolerated it till 3am but then told the nurse to give me a shot of Vovron again.

In between 12.30 to 3am I had started to feel very uncomforatble with the medicated gauze they had stuck in me. Infact this gauze was expanding the pain and also I had started to get cramps and a feeling that I am going to have a BM. I went to the toilet and what I find that I have no BM instead just the gauze has come out and along with it
bright red blood. Frankly, I was prepared for this but seeing the amount I must have had bleed I actually felt something has gone wrong and I'm gonna be in the ICU straight away.Anways, some how I got the courage and moved back to my bed in the room. After a few mins I felt something wet on my pyajamas and to further horify me it was a big patch of blood and the bedsheet too soiled with it. I called the nurse who in turn called the doc. The doc asked me a few questions and then later said what I went thru was perfectly normal & that theres no reason for me to worry
about. It was at this time that the nurse injected me the 2nd Vovron pain killer injection that I had asked for.

With the pain easing away in a few mins I fell asleep for 3 hours and woke up at 6am. In all the mean time after I returned back from the OT,I was under 2 different liquid antibiotics namely,Ceftum 500 & Metrogyl 400 along with Razo 20. The surgeon who had operated me came down for a visit and asked if the gauze was still there or has it been removed on its own. Since, it had already been moved out he sent out a note for
discharging me so that I can move back home. After his green signal, I was given the first meal to eat i.e breakfast. Mind you, this is the first time I'm gonna eat on 28 Nov since 26 Nov afternoon. I was given some
porridge & upma, an Indian dish mainly consists of roasted bran along with rye and curry leaves. I was also given lunch subsequently which consisted of coocked spinach, lentil(Dal), Rice & Lentil mash(Kchidi) and Sewaiyan ( Indian dessert made with milk). After this a last round of tests were conducted and then I moved towards home.

All you people who have to go thru surgery, mind you call someone to be with you. You will not be able to walk properly so thinking of driving back home yourself is way beyond.Rest of the day I rested after a hot shower.

Day 1(29 Nov) - Since I had not slept well at the hospital I had a good sleep. Stayed at home and rested on bed. Sitting on the chair was a task like a war. I couldnt sit for more than 5 mins. So basically was on bed at all times. I was taking my medicines as directed by the docs. On the pain front, I was in pain for sure but the pain killers were doing there job too.I ate just fruits & a bean cabbage soup as I had to be sriticly on a diet which is fiberous. I was given the same antibiotics and a laxative called Cremaffin.
Day2- As I had expected I didnt have any BM, not even the slightest feeling but I knew soon I would start to feel heavy and I certainly need a BM by tomorrow. I was also leaking a lil amount of blood stains mixed with mucous. I kept a gauze strip as a pad on my underpants. Anyways, the day passed and I rested.
Day 3- I had my first BM. I had heard stories that it will be painful and it was in actual. It felt that someone is tearing you apart. To my surprise I didnt pass any blood though. After this I took a sitz bath which did make me feel lil better. I was continuously taking sitz bath 4 times in a day since I came home but still had those soiling leakage.
Day4- My second BM, it was almost terrible as the first one but this time it was more on the quantity too.
Day5- BM was fine as a normal but the pain was there. Infact what I started to feel the pain more after half an hour of the sitz bath.
Day 6- BM was as normal but the later pain continued.
Day 7- Same conditionalong with soiling.
Day 8- Same condition.I went to see the doc who performed on me. He did an examination and said the tissues are healing but will take more time. The sking tag which he had cut is like a wound and unless new skin doesnt develop its goon hurt. All antibiotics stopped besides the pain killer which I could take. Although the pain killer med frequency has come down from 3 to 1. He added an ointment called Xylocanine 5%.This ointment contains lidocanine which kinds off numbs the area.
Day 9- Normal BM.But pain is immence after half an hour of BM an in between a sitz bath has also happened.
Day 10, Day 11 - Same condition.
Day 12 (7Dec 08) - Today, same condition, no improvement.

I just want to ask if someone has gone thru the same what I'm going thru and if yes then will the pain go away or not?? These docs dont tell you the full story associated with the recovery. I never imagined that I would go thru such a pain and agony. Would keep you ppl updated with my further developments.
