Hello I am in great appreciation of your post! I am in exactly the same condition I am at one week past surgery the pain is still horrible and I feel inhuman. The doctor did say this would be very painful and he was not lying. The recovery part is painful the preparation and surgery is easy! Hot baths lots of them even though they are time-consuming help tremendously! Stay on pain meds and take two weeks off from work if you can. Sucks to use a vacation that way but you'll need the time. Drink fiber everyday for the rest of your life and stay on viberzi or whatever IBS medicine your doctor put you on.

Hello , iM in your same shoes . Im 20 days post op and they said that is swelling tissue but to me looks like another hemorrhoid and not only it looks horrible but it also hurts a lot specially when i go to the bathroom. Im very upset and depressed about it. I cant believe after going to that horrible surgical pain, general anesthesia and not be able to breast feed my 3 months old baby my bottom looks like that ! can a professional say something about it please. And on top of every thing my surgeon went away for couple of months due to an emergency and now i have the feeling that no one wants to touch me because some other surgeon work was involved.

Hi All.
As i am writing right now, I am exactly 4 weeks post internal haemorrhoidectomy. I will share you my experience, since everyone have almost the same pain struggle as I had and the swelling process seems takes forever.
On the 20th of June 2018 I had to undergo a haemorrhoidectomy for my query stage 3 haemorrhoid as labelled by my surgeon in the report. A day before I did my bowel prep using 3 sachets of PICO prep every two hours. So i started my bowel prep at 4pm after my work, nearly an hour and half later i began to feel the urge of going to the toilet. The following day I was still having some clear to yellowish watery stool. I maintained my clear fluid diet as per instruction. On the day of my surgery I needed to wait for 4 hours to be called before the surgery starts. I was under general anaesthesia so everything was great for me hours after a surgery. I was transferred from recovery to an overnight stay in room. I was offered dinner and i managed to maintain a good appetite. I was starving since I only had fluid after lunch a day before my surgery. Pain was not existing on the first night of my surgery, maybe because the aneathetic medication was still within my system. I was given voltaren, pxycontin 10 and panadol before I went to sleep. On the day I was discharge, i felt nauseated that I want to vomit, i did not wat my breakfast and I asked for an antiemetic medication. I took panadol but i hid the pain medications in my pocket- It was a very cheeky moved. I had my first BM an hour before I was about to be discharge and I tell you it was a hell. My stool was soft and very thin, but the feeling that my anus was being freshly cut. I had some small bleeding after BM, and I immediately jumped into the shower and pointed the head shower into my pelvic area and made sure it was a very warm to hot water. It hot shower made my pelvic floor and bladder relaxed. Day 2-7 was a struggle for me becaus eof pain in my ass. I need to changed the timing of my medication so that I had a complete coverage for my pain 24/7. What I did was take panadol at 6-12-6-12, voltaren at 9a and 9p while tramadol at 11a and 11p. The most horrific thing that I did was i went back to work on my day 6. I am a nurse and I need to walked with the doctors and deal with minor issues with our patients, it was a horrible decisions that I made. I was not concentrating with my work and all I think was the pain in my ass. When I go to the loo in my work plce I need to bring a vase and fill it in with a mild hot water and every BM i was my ass. I need to wear a female sanitary pad and change it as oftern as I can because of discharges and blood stain. On my day 10 at work I had an urged of BM, and it was a clotted blood, I stayed in the toilet and monitored if I have ongoing bleeding. Luckily The bleeding stopped and I continued tonwork in the floor. The reason why I work was that it will divert my attention away from my pain in my ass but I was somehow wrong. I should have taken a month leave. Anyway, my day10-14 post-op was my sleepless nights. I had this BM every afternoon and then every hour I had an urge to go to the bathroom, it was like an incomplete evacuation. When I sat on the toilet, nothing was coming out, and because I was still having a knife cut pain feeling I need to jump into our shower and stay in there for 30 mins until the hot water turns cold. That was how worst my rectal spasm was. On my day 15 i saw my surgeon and unluckily my spasm was gone on that day and I told him about it. My surgeon checked my ass and told me that it was granulating and healing slowly. I told him my pain experience and we were just laughing about it. I told him I will not see you again with this same procedure. My surgeon was nice and funny. But on that same day, I had that spasm again from 11p til 3am and I need to come to work at 7a. It was a struggle for me, i took voltaren and panadol early. Then i wole up so tired, I took my ibuprofen on my way to work coz I need to be pain free. My pain was on and off but excruciating. Day 16 til now, I do not use any sanitary pad, but I still have some mild pain when I do BM. I have also noticed that my stool was bot as thick as before, they are like thin. So i slightly felt my ass and I can feel a scar and in the opposite side I can feel and swelling lining. I said to myself hopefully this is not another haemorrhoid. I have a skin tag and my skin tag is painful when my haemorrhoid was swelling before but as of the moment my skin stag is pain free. I am hopping though that the swollen anal lining I felt last night is just part of a swollen anal lining that soon will go back to its normal anatomy.

I am same with you when you said you had moments of regret. I told my partber that He could have stopped me and discouraged me to do the surgery. But it was too late. Just tha in every BM and spasm; and on top of that the sleepless nights.

Anyone seeing poop in their rectal area even after bathing and doing sitz bath and patting dry and everything? Each time i have a BM I'll bathe the area do my sitz bath i usually use very soft wipes which i soap with feminine wash to wash my butt but not long after I'd returnbecause of an itchy feeling or uncomfortable feeling in that area and I'd pass a wet wipe and there'd be stool in my butt as though its left over and just came down on its own I'm scared is this normal and will it pass i haven't seen anyone on here mentioned anything like that

I had my surgery a week after you and I am still having problems with painful bowel movements. I was told I was a 3 inside and out. I have an outer hard rim that is protruding (the best I can describe it) and at the back a soft piece. They are telling me that the whole thing is a skin tag !! Its just as bad as the hemorrhoids that were there but more painful. I am at a loss

Hi there, I'm curious. You mentioned it looked worse after your surgery than it did before. I had my hemorrhoidectomy about 8 days ago, so I'm still in recovery mode, but wondered how the area looks now.

I'm exactly 4 weeks now as well. I had 3 large internals and a skin tag removed. Same post op "new hemorrhoid" swelling symptoms as many, many others here. I noticed the swelling right around 2 1/2 weeks post op. It felt exactly like a prolapsed hemorrhoid. Very sore and made sitting/ walking very uncomfortable. It looked the part too, a grape sized red blob, just like a hemorrhoid. I had almost no improvement on that for about a week and then it very slowly started to feel a little better and as of a few days ago I'm finally able to sit down (on very soft things) and walk around a bit more. I'm definitely still swollen in there though. Like many other's I'm doing daily pictures back there to check progress. Seems to be no progress for a whole week and then the next week starts just a bit better and repeat.

My poops are more formed now but still pretty soft. They are coming out now in these foot long snakes that are coming out in these weird almost ribbons. Like perfectly flat but about an inch high. It is still is sore pooping (going into a sitz bath still) but after a few minutes in a hot bath after I'm fine. I've been off pain meds since week 2.

Stenosis is obviously a huge concern but I'm hoping that it's just a result of my swelling not leaving a lot of space for the poo to come out and with it being softer (still taking 2 collace stool softener a day) my guess is that its sort of like playing with one of those Playdough machines that squeezes it out into shapes. Lol. I'm hoping that over the next month that swelling will finally go away and my poops will return to normal shape. I'm not constipated and I don't have the sensation of needing to go but not getting anything out that many with stenosis describe and my movements are fairly substantial / regular and not too painful, just funny shaped and a bit of soreness.

I did have an infection around the 2 week mark that resulted in a large amount of very smelly discharge leaking out. I got a week of antibiotics for that and while I still get a little bit of leakage for a few hours after a poop, the rest of the day I'm good.

The rest of my recovery was the same as everyone else's. Intense pain week 1, getting a little better during week 2 until I turned the corner and was off pain meds but still laid up.

From the other posts I've read, I should expect this swelling to completely go away somewhere over the next 2 weeks - 1.5 months. If I get to that point and am still pooping credit cards, I'll get worried as it'll probably be stenosis at that point. I don't really care if I end up with skin tags as long as I can poop normally.

I'm working from home still and probably won't try to go back to the office for at least another 2 weeks.

Best advice to someone just starting this journey: This recovery is loooooooooooooong. After 2 weeks you'll be over the hump on pain mostly but still expect a very long (1-2 months) period of discomfort and milder pain/ discomfort after that. I've also still got leakage 4 weeks out and I'm still wearing women's panty liners.

Not everyone seems to get the swelling, so if you don't get it, I could see being almost back to normal 2 weeks later. If you do get it though (most do), you're probably looking at a minimum of 4 weeks until it starts going down and then several weeks after that as it starts to (very slowly) go away entirely. Many are left with skin tags after that as well, just depending on how the swelling heals.

There's a ton of advice out there about weeks 1 and 2, but almost nothing specifically about the week 4 - 2 month swelling you could still have, so I wanted to post something specifically about it.

My experience is the same. I would never advise ANYONE to have this surgery.

I am 3 months out first surgery and 5 weeks second surgery. Pain is almost unrelenting and I go to work in tears and come home the same way. Nothing helps and I have all but given up. Worst mistake I’ve ever made!
