Does it help to not consume solids and just do liquids to prevent having a bm and the pain involved in having one?

Hi everyone! I would just like to share with you all my experience after my hemorrhoid surgery. I had 2 external hems removed via the traditional hemorrhoidectomy surgery. I had my first bm the day after the surgery. I can say that the pain is tolerable and i didn't took any pain medications. 1 week post op i develop 2 hemorrhoid like lump outside my anus. I read that it is normal so i just didn't worry about it its just that it was painful especially when i sit. 5 weeks after surgery i still have a slight bleeding on my stool. I am now on my 6 weeks. The lump is now smaller. I still have some discomfort during bm and feeling sore after. But i feel a lot better now. I can now eat whatever i want. So to those who are in pain just hang in there it is a long recovery but believe me doing the surgery is the right thing. Anyways here are some tips for you guys.
. Do sitz bath it helps with the pain and swelling.
. During bm have a hot shower pointed on your anus. It stimulates your anus so you wont have a hard time pooping. And it will lessen the pain while having a bm.
. Fiber! I take metamucil 2 times a day. It helps to have a soft stool. Coz believe me being constipated is your worst nightmare.
. Use wet tissue to clean your anus after bm. Or better yet rinse with warm water. You need to keep that area clean.
. Do not strain! And do not force yourself to poop. It will make the stitches stretch and it will cause bleeding.
. Drink lots of water and eat fruits and vegetables. Avoid constipating foods.
Good luck to everyone. It is a slow recovery but you will get there eventually. Just hang in there. ;)

No. Coz you need to eat to make your wound heal. Just eat more fruits and vegetables. And drink a lot of water.

I am going into week 5 of recovery and still feel horrible. I've had a growth that looks like another hemmroid for over 3 weeks now and still leaking pus and blood. I've been to the dr twice and have been told this is normal by two different doctors. I don't see how I'm ever going to get better as I feel like nothing is improving. All I do is sit in the bath, pain relievers, water, stool softeners, etc with no helpful results. Has this happened to anyone else? When will this improve? I'm miserable.

I am in week 7. Still have minor discomfort during bm and feeling sore after. Also i still have the hemorrhoid lump like outside my anus but is now a lot smaller. All i can say is that i do feel better everyday. But i must admit it is a long recovery. Good luck and think positive!.

I am in week 7. I also have that hemorrhoid like lump but mine is now smaller. I still have some minor discomfort during bm and feeling sore after. But i never took any pain medication since day 1 post op. I dont know if im just lucky or i just have a high pain tolerance. My bleeding and discharge stopped at 6 weeks. Just hang in there its just a slow recovery but you will get there.

2 months after surgery reporting.
I still have a slight discharge after each bm and the area is still a bit swollen. According to the doctor, I still have a small wound there that is recovering. I have way less urgency to go to the bathroom all the time, something that plagued my first weeks of recovery, thank god. Im also taking laxatives every now and then so it helps soften up the stools.
This is a reminder that the recovery period is big, so dont expect to be good in just a few weeks, this takes months. I know how some people are feeling, my first 2 weeks were hell but it gets better. Right now the swelling is less than what it used to be on the first weeks. It's still a bit uncomfortable, still need to wear womens pads, but not awful like it was at the start.

I just had the procedure done 2 days ago. IT IS HELL!! I WOULD NEVER DO IT AGAIN! I'm sorry to say that but...NO!!!

Hi, I had a mucosal lining prolapse and a third degree hemorroidectomy done nearly 3 weeks ago. Like most others I found the procedure spiteful and the recovery period slow. However, I have never suffered from constipation but IBS-D has plagued me for 40+ years. Within days of the surgery I was having 10 or more BM’s (I’m small & not a big eater!) and had to take codeine phosphate to slow movement down. That is much better but I have developed two grade 3 hems and to keep clean or sit is like dealing with barbed wire! I can’t get to see my Consultant until 13th June (fingers crossed I get a cancellation) and wondered if anyone has any advise or suggestions. The NHS is in a mess!!

Hi ,
To all I feel your post hemorriodectomy. Dave from the UK. I'm post op 12 weeks. This operation takes up-to 6 months to fully heal. There are some rules I would love share with all who experience this operation. Tips I guess to help. That really has worked.
1/ Ask the hospital for instillagel. Local anesthetic in a syringe. Prior bowel movement. Post movement for two weeks post op.
2/ Have a shallow bath. Add a little salt to the bat water, bathe Straight after BM. As your muscles down there are relaxed. Soak 20 minutes.
3/Use Fibrogel, sachets 2-3 a day. These are a god send. Bran sachet . They help to keep your BM formed but soft. Not runny. Which will cause more prone to infection if your BM are liquid. After week 6-8. Drop down to 1 sachet per day. Drink at least 3 pints of water through the day.
4/ You will experience a yellow discharge. Some poop leakage too. Don't be alarmed. Your muscles have been opened to extreme. Lol. Anyway. When you feel this leakage. You must try to clean up straight away. Little water, soap etc..
5/ So take a dip in a warm/hot bath for 20 mins after BM. Plus have another bath at night before bed. All this helps with healing the area.
6/ I get all the degrading leakage, one thing I forgot to mention. If your a man. Be glad of lady monthly pads. There another god send. Helps to suppress the leakage. Change 2-4 tines a day. Happy days. the pain is hard mentally, physically drains you in and out the tub. But there is light at the end of the tunnel. Use the items, make a list. You won't go far wrong.
7/ Don't sit on your butt for any long periods for the first 8 weeks. Try an walk when you can, not to much. Little by little. This operation will take up-to 6 months. Due too the area. It's a roller coaster of 1 step forward. Two steps back. Blood, tears, anxiety, frustration. But listen. Use the things above with a good diet. Bingo you will come through this. It's a long one. Good luck to all. Feeling your pain and discomfort. Dave. England. UK.

Sound advice Dave of England, I agree wholeheartedly with your comments. However, it doesn’t help someone with IBS (diarrhoea ) as fibre gel tends to make me go more than I would otherwise. Since the op I am delighted to say that after a lifetime of constant trips to the loo, I am almost normal (had started taking Symprove 4 months ago and that has been a lifesaver for me) but it is difficult to work out how to keep bms formed and soft without triggering an onset of multiple bms which is what happened in the early post op days as GP had prescribed stool softener and I had to quickly drop them off. I had a mucosal prolapse and hemorroidectomy done a month ago but had 2 grade 3 hems appear after about week 2. I have been prescribed HC cream but not hopeful that that will give anything but temporary relief. Can’t get to see Consultant for another 6 weeks, not that I want pulling about at the moment but dread the thought of further surgery but not sure I can live with the hems. Thankfully the mucosal repair seems to have been a success as I feel much better with regard to that. Oh well, tomorrow is another day!

Hi everyone. I had hemorrhoidectomy 6 days ago. Word of advice-- don't do outpatient. Stay in the hospital for at least 2 days. Pre-op, I had to fast for 8 hours and do 2 enemas which was a little painful because of my existing hemos. Btw, i had 5 external and 2 internal hemo. Imagine that! And I'm only 35. Anyway, before the surgery, they sedated me then gave me spinal anesthesia. Its important that you be sedated first before they put in the spinal anesthesia so you won't feel the needle in your back. You'll be waking up at the recovery room feeling no pain at all (but a little groggy). You'll still be able to smile and talk and joke around. And then... after 3 or more hours the pain starts kicking in. And its not just any ordinary pain. Its the pain that makes you want to die. Literally. I've had 2 kids already and labor pains does not even compare to the post hemo surgery. I called the nurse up and requested the strongest pain killer. The nurse gave me arcoxia via IV and it worked rigt away. That's the reason why i advice in patient since pain meds can be through IV which lets thr pain go right away. You won't be able to do this if you're at home post surgery. Anyway. The IV pain meds were arcoxia and tramadol which helps alot with the pain but knocks you out. I was basically sleeping the whole time.
I went home with take home oral pain meds- dolcet and arcoxia tablet. The pain is slowly decreasing after 2 days. But then i had BM on the third day and the post surgery pain came all back again. It was so horrible. I was in the toilet for 3 hours and it was just torture. What really helped me was hot sitz bath. The hotter the water the better. It numbs my behind and slowly lessens the pain. Here in our country, the Philippines, we boil guava leaves and that's what i use for the hot sitz. Its a herbal remedy for wounds. After BM, i put it proctosedyl ointment to reduce the swelling. The swelling is like a hemorrhoid but the doctor says it will eventually go away. So there. This is my 6th day and i just had a bm earlier still with pain but not like the first bm i had. I'm taking it one day at a time and very hopeful to finally recover from this.

Hi! I did mine under dr. Sacdalan. She's the best colorectal surgeon. I had mine done at medical city. It was really painful but it will lessen after the 5th day. The real torture is after the BM. I do hot sitz with boiled guava leaves for the wounds and place proctosedyl ointment.
