Hi Amy here again... 35 y/o, had 5 piles removed.
8 days after surgery-- BM is still a challenge. Had to jump to a hot sitz after every BM. Still painful after an hour or two after BM. Not taking tramadol any more and switched to ibuprofen (which I think is more effective with the inflammation).
Can normally do regular tasks (after resting an hour after BM). Taking in one day at a time and thankfully recovering well. Btw, I have swelling which feels like hemorrhoids. Two big peas sized shaped. Will come back tomorrow for check up.

Ditto! I too had prolapse, which the surgery did fix, but now 16 days post-surgery, I have new hemorrhoids, which are painful in their own right. The general pain and the stabbing sensations wake me up at night, i have constant, continuous discharge, and I absolutely dread having a BM, which happens several times a day now, though very little comes out. It feels like a sharp-edged camel is making its way out of there, and after crying my way through that with the childbirth breathing, I want to cry again when I look in the toilet and see maybe a fattish string bean. I know I'll have to go again later and the thought fills me with dread. BUT, having said all this, I think the 10-12 day mark was my lowest point, almost insufferable, though it's two steps forward and one step back, and I know I have a long way to go yet.

Hello everyone. I did my open haemorroidectomy 5 days ago and Im still in agonizing pain esp. after BM (which Im having 3 a day).
Has anyone here did an open haem. (where they leave the wounds open and left to heal on their own)? If so, after how many days you started to feel better? I had 3 haems removed meaning 3 wounds in my anal canal.
PLS HELP

I'm in the UK. I had my open surgery done last Fri Morning-day 1 (5 May 2017) and today is Thursday- day 7. I was numbed so that I really had no horrid pain right away. I normally poo in the am so started to get worried when I had no urge to poo the morning after surgery.
Was on co-codamol which causes constipation and was eating light meals with lots of fiber. The pain and tenderness were unbearable when I finally got the dressing out with slight straining, but felt a bit better. That was Saturday afternoon.
By Sunday-day 3, I was in such pain and discomfort due to no BM. The stool softener wasn't working so had my husband get me some milk of magnesia. Took a dose of that and later had my first BM. Somewhat disappointed that it looked about the thickness of my finger or less but felt so much more relieved. There wasn't as much pain as I anticipated, but I was very sore and tender after. The sitz bath was a welcome relief! I took more Milk of Mag and had another BM with the pain same as before.
By Monday, the urge to have a BM came fast and furious; I couldn't get up the stairs fast enough. I was also using a stool to put my feet on so I was in sort of a squatting position on the toilet which helped.
I am back to normal eating and am drinking lots of water still. However, I am having a BM 2-3 times a day when I would normally have only one, but reading other posts, this seems to be the norm. The pain has gotten better over time but I still have a ways to go. Good luck to everyone. At least we know we are not alone!

Multiple BM's a day after surgery is normal, first 2 months was like that for me and it was hell. You will return to normal eventualy.
However its almost 4 months post-operation for me and I still have blood leakage after bowel movements, and sometimes is really noticeable. Bowel movements are also harder since 1/2 months ago because the stools are returning to normal size (sometimes bigger). However this makes me bleed and I dont like that. Last doctor appointment, (around 2 months ago) he told me I still have a wound there so it would take time to heal, but honestly seeing the toilet water bright orange (when it happens due to bigger stools) isnt something pretty.

Did anyone else spend the time sitting on hot water bottle or is it just me?
You know it might help with the pain just as the bath does just don't make it to (boiling) hot.
Hope this will help someone as sometimes it's just that. No painkiller can do what worm water bottle can do.

I had my hemorroidectomy 7 days ago. Swelling, pain and external swelling so much worse. I have not been able to have a bm. Barely a few drips. Pain is so bad i want to puke & pass out!
I wish i never had the surgery. Bleeding, leakage. Nothing helps the swelling. Lidocaine does help with pain.

Take plenty of fiber (30grams) and water. Take medication on time. Ice swollen area. I had mine on the 15th (May 2017). I'm still on bed rest but the pain has greatly reduced. The first week was PURE HELL. I cried every day. FYI: I had 3 hemorrhoids removed. 1 ex 2 int. Pooping in a bucket helps and prevents post op complications. I pooped in a small trash can. I would line it with two grocery bags, then squat ALL the way down and breathe slowly in and out. Then just let the bowel movement naturally occur. Tie up the bags and toss it out.
It will eventually get better. Pray and let Jesus heal you.

I was looking for someone who had been through this situation. I had the surgery two weeks ago, and those swelling appeared. The doctor said that they are normal but I imagined that they were not going away, now with this report I'm more certain of that.
