I get severe menstrual cramps the older I get (I am 33). I was on a boat with some good friends (an older couple, straight edge, wonderful people) when I began to experience severe cramps. Upon returning to the dock, my friend "Jack" said he had a mild painkiller/anti-inflammatory called Tramadol if I wanted it for relief. I said sure anything was better than the pain I experience once a month! He gave me two 50mg (red and white capsules) and said I should feel better in about 30 minutes. I went home and laid down and about 45 minutes later my vision was blurry. I stood up and almost fell down because I was so dizzy, nausea, itchy, hearing sensitivity and extremely "high". I am sure my friend did not realize I would have such an adverse reaction, in fact he sent me a text message to check on me and was very surprised to find out I was so high. I took it around 3pm today and it is now 12:30am and I still feel the same. I went to work at 7pm as a bartender and I told them I had to go home because I absolutely could not function. I do not like this feeling and I will be sure to avoid Tramadol in the future! I started to get nervous because its been so many hours with no relief from this high feeling, but after reading the comments on here, I feel as if it is just more sensitive for certain people. However, when reading the drug info for Tramadol, it states it is a mild pain reliever. I believe the info should make it more clear that there is a great chance of people experiencing these severe and even frightening symptoms. For me, this is a very strong drug! I have taken Vicodin and Percocet for wisdom teeth surgery and broken bones and those are mild compared to this Tramadol. Not happy, very uncomfortable.

I had a VERY similar reaction the first time I took tramadol. I was later told it was a severe reaction to Benedryl I had been taking. Had you taken any benedryl or anything with benedryl in it recently (prior 24 hours)? Those two medications have the most intense reactions I can ever remember having. Just my two cents. Since that time, I stopped taking the benedryl and have not had any reactions like that again. Hope you feel better.
