I have been quite worried the past few days. My girlfriend had just gotten over her period a day or so before we had intercourse. After we did I had noticed some a bit of blood. Being as we are each others firsts and she is on birth control it was unprotected. So we are both clean but I am concerned. How worried should I be? Could I have contracted something from this interaction? What should I do? If someone could shed some light on this it'd be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

The pill doesn't allow the release of viable eggs...so she can't be pregnant. And the thing with a woman's period is that it's never just finished right away. You may think it's over, but then a couple days later there is a little bit more to come out. I'm not sure why it's that way, but I've been dealing with it for about 10 years now. So, no, there is nothing for you to worry about. Unless what you are saying is that your penis was bleeding, in which case YES you should see a doctor. Other than that...you are fine, I promise.

This is very similar to a question that has appeared elsewhere on this board.

If she was in her period or just finishing, as you suggest, there is very little chance of her becoming pregnant from your "interaction" as you put it.

Although some cultures frown on having intercourse or relations during this period of a woman's cycle, it will not hurt you. There is no disease related to menstral blood. It can be a bit messy, but there's no harm.

But I should also add that if you are engaging in unprotected sex, you are exposing yourself to any STD or STI that she or you may have. Also, there is a very slight, but very real POSSIBILITY of pregnancy.

I know, I just said that she probably not pregnant from this interaction, but there is still a chance. Especially if she has just started Birth Control.
You both need to continue some other form of birth control at least a month until her body settles down into the new hormone levels.
