I'm 54 years old and I have been through my menapause about two years ago. During that time I have been using hormone replacement therapy to ease the symptoms of the menapause. I have stopped taking hormone replacement therapy about 9 months ago since my doctor said that it is no longer needed, and that I'm going through post menapause now. About a week ago I have had a bleeding from my vagina and it looked like menstruation is coming back again. Is this normal for post menapause?

Hormone replacement therapy can be taken even after the menapause, in the post menapause period to help women cope with the symptoms of the post menapause like osteoporosis. The cause of your bleeding could be hormonal therapy, but that would only apply if you stopped taking hormone replacement therapy just a couple months ago. Since you say that you stopped hormone replacement therapy 9 months ago and I suppose you have had no menstruation in that period then this bleeding could be a cause for concern. Vaginal bleeding in women that have gone through menapause and are in post menapause is a clear sign of some kind of a neoplastic change in either the cervix or the uterus. It is possible that you have endometrial cancer or the cancer of the cervix. I think that this is a serious situation and that you should talk to your doctor about this and ask for further advice and possible treatment.

I am 53 and went through menapause 3 years ago. I was on HRT (prim/pro) for 3 years. In May 2007 I started bleeding after intercourse. After a week I saw OB/GYN and had ultrasound. They found that the endometreal lining was too thick..a common side effect of Prim/Pro. Dr. took me off HRT and did D&C. Results were good.. no cancer and no bleeding now. Please don't fool around..go see your doctor. This could be very serious.

I just got spotting, two years post menopause! What could this be? I am 54 years old, and had a tubal ligation 25 years ago.

I am a 54 year old woman. I stopped menstruation about 9 years ago and now bleeding severe. I have some back pain and some lower abdomen pain, but nothing that I didn't have when I had my period. What does this bleeding mean?

I am 54 years old. Approximately 10 years ago, I quit having periods. I have never used Hormone replacement therapy (HRT). 2 days ago I began having sudden vaginal bleeding, with each day my "period" getting heavier. Should I be concerned enough to see a physician?
