Hello,
2 years ago I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and I was put on medication. I feel fine … from time to time still depressed, but overall situation is getting better. Now I am on Zyprexa. For the first year I was on medication I gained 10 pounds and for the last year I gained 16 pounds more. I was looking quite athletic when I was diagnosed and put on med. Now, I feel I look like a pig… I am at least 25 pounds overweight. This is depressing me even more then did this stupid disease…I do not know what to do… I know I should exercise more, but this pills make me feel like I do not have to and what’s the worth… then again, sometimes, I have days when I am full of energy and could move the world.

Hey there,
Most people gain weight on bipolar medications… as you said they make you feel somehow passive and you are not up to any exercise… The same was with me. I gained 30 pounds in a year!!!! Luckily, I have a husband and he is a very stable person. He helped get through this… We did daily exercises and he actually controlled my eating. I think best advice is to talk to your doc to prepare you a medical diet. Exactly what you should eat … I did that… but then is always the next step …to do things as doctor said... It is hard to do this on your own, but everything is possible. Best is if you a friend or somebody who will help you get through this. You shall need a great deal of patience and stamina to do things. But if you do things right, you shall be rewarded.
Best wishes!

There are so many medications out there to treat bi-polar disirder that I would tell your physician that you want to switch medications. That is an unhealthy weight gain Get on a pill that keeps you at a stable weight. There are many options to choose from. good luck.
