Hello, I just had HoLEP surgery 2 days ago performed by Dr. Knoedler at Penn State Hershey Medical in Hershey, PA. He is a real pro. Excellent communication. Very good team including the anesthesiologist. Very good Nurse practitioner was key to proper dismissal from the hospital.

Very little incontinence today, day 2. Sleeping on my side seemed to give the sphincter a rest enough to recover. Of course this is very early report. There is what seems like normal blood in the urine. There is pain when peeing and discomfort. I had a 3 inch long prostrate before so my discomfort will be more than others with smaller prostates. I seem to have increased bladder capacity already which is logical since my prostate was pushing up into the bladder rather significantly. This website is great. I wil post updates.

Final question, when did you stop taking Flowmax (tamsulosin). My guess is it helps to keep the urethra calm and maybe controls some pain. But, I feel tamsulosin is causing me to have irregular heartbeats, specifically PCV's so I would like to get off of it as soon as I can.

Hello.

Tamsulosin (Flomax) is an alpha-blocker commonly prescribed to treat symptoms of an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia, BPH). It works by relaxing the muscles in the prostate and bladder, which helps improve urine flow and reduces symptoms of BPH.

Tamsulosin can cause side effects. If you suspect that tamsulosin is causing irregular heartbeats or any other side effect, you should contact your doctor as soon as possible. Common side effects of tamsulosin include dizziness, headache, runny or stuffy nose, and fainting. While irregular heartbeats are not a commonly cited side effect of tamsulosin, any new or unusual symptoms should be reported to your doctor.

If you are considering discontinuing tamsulosin or any other medication, it's essential to discuss this decision with your healthcare provider. They can provide guidance on whether it's appropriate to stop the medication and if so, how to do so safely. Abruptly stopping some medications can lead to withdrawal symptoms or a resurgence of symptoms the medication was treating.

If tamsulosin is not well-tolerated, there might be other medications or treatments available to manage BPH symptoms.
