I had a haemaroidectomy in September 15. What an experience! I was off work fot 7 weeks and my top tios are:
Drink lots of water
Get some extra strong prescription Ibuprofen from the doctor.Keeping the pain under control is paramount.
Buy a sitz bath
If you become constipated lay in the bath. If you need to have a BM use a small fishing net to scoop.
Hope this helps

Hi. Inhad my surgery 2 weeks and 5 days ago. While inam virually pain-free (other than mynstitches bothering me) I, too, have the same drainage issue. I went for post op appt. a few days ago, and my surgeon seemed pleased with the healing but not the drainage
Inam glad to hear that I am not the only one who had to deal with this slow healing process . This was, by far, the hardest sirgery to come back from, for me. I was told 14 days and I'd be back to normal -ha! Not by a long shot!!

I am 2 1/2 weeks post surgery and I feel like I'm slowly going to survive. My surgeon originally told me that the day of surgery would be rough, but i would be up and going like normal the next day. He couldn't have been more wrong! It has been a nightmare. At 10 days post op, I was sobbing hysterically from the pain and my husband called the surgeon to ask why I would be in this much pain, and the surgeons reply was that I was a wuss. My husband and Doctor then got into an argument on the phone. Lots of fun. Anyway, went to see the surgeon the next day only to find out I had an infection in there.
Each day is slowly getting better, but I highly recommend planning to be down for at the very least 3 weeks. And take it slow. Listen to your body, you know your body better than anyone else.

Today is my day 4. Feels like there is no end in sight! Glad to read your story and hear that your drainage eventually cleared up. What a miserable curse this is.

I am scared I have an infection the incision sight looks like a head of cauliflower but my surgeon keeps blowing me off telling me it's normal. I am almost certain I have a suture abscess but the doctor won't give me the time of day.

I'm nearly 3 weeks post-surgery. I was not at all prepared for the level of pain involved with this surgery. Thankfully, I'm feeling a little better each day - feel like I'm operating at about 50% but that might be a little optimistic. The pain involved with BMs is still very real and requires a hot shower to soothe things and some pretty deep breaths - and talking myself through the next hour or so, before I waddle off to work 2 hours late. The drainage is still there and toxic because it leaves a terrible rash almost immediately on contact. I will be glad when this is over. On a good note...with my improved diet and increased water as helped me lose 10 lbs in 3 weeks! Silver lining!

Thank you all for the posts. I had my op 9 days ago. I had to have an emergency op. So there was no prep time for me. I sat for a week prior to the op with thombosed external hemorrhoids. I then went to the ER and had to be operated on that day. The doctor was shocked and said i was the worst case he had seen... yay me. Taking into account I qas 26 weeks pregnant when i was operated on. I had to go under general anesthesia which was already scary due to the pregnancy. But thankfully baby is well. I was operated on around 5 or 6 in the evening. Stayed at the hospital which was so uncomfortable. Couldn't have heavy pain killers, couldn't pee properly it was just a nightmare. The next couple of days were extremely hard. I cried a lot of the time from the pain, and wished I could take something that would just ease it or knock me out. But I had to battle through with baths, ice packs and laying down. My poor 3 year old couldn't understand why I was crying and in so much pain. I have been regular passing a stool of demons each day. Which I'm just happy I've been able to go. Read stories of people going days without going. Day 5 and my stitches started to come out which actually relieved some pain. Now on day 9. I have very mild pain. I went out the house for the first time in over 2 weeks. Was a little sore but nice. My only issue still are my bowel movements still sore and I am in pain 2 hours or so after. I'm taking what I can to keep everything g soft and regular. I too have that yellowish discharge sort of thing. I just keep cleaning the area. I can deal with that till it goes. I just wish I could use the toilet like a normal person. I go back to work in 3 days time. I'm dreading having to make a c**p there... I can not keep the moaning and groaning in. Thankfully they are all very understanding. I'm so grateful for all the sites I have sat on reading. So many different stories. So which had me jealous reading and some which really made me want to cry. As much as I thought I really wouldn't get through it all and found myself in and out of depression. I'm glad it happened and those "pains in the ass" are gone. Just pray they don't return. BUt will do what ever I can to make sure they don't. Good luck to anyone who is still recovering. One more thing anyone who has any doubts about the swelling, it is swelling. when I first felt the bumps I burst into tears and said he didn't get them all. But he did, it's just swelling. Good luck everyone. It's not something to laugh about or push aside. This is really a difficult time you can do it!!

So I posted last and wanted to update on how I am today. I'm now 12 days post. And had the best day I've had in 2 and half weeks. No pain. Still a bit uncomfortable but that's fine. I had two bowel movements first was sore and I had to get into a hot bath. But the second was the easiest one I've had in weeks. No need to jump into a bath. Just clean and carry on with my day. I drove today without hassle. Went to the shops, couldn't walk around for hours. But! What a great day. Amd tomorrow I'm back at work so it's given me some hope. I don't know what tomorrow will be like but if it's anything like today. I will one happy person! Feeling great and like a new person!!

I am a mere 5 days post-op. The pain after a BM is like none other! Reading your post gives me hope, though. I have 4 more weeks of medical leave. I was hoping to go back earlier, but I may need all of it! I have read lots of horror stories but I remain optimistic!

Take as long as you need dont rush to go back to work. Its not an easy surgery to go through. It's one of the worst, so take your time and heal. I went back to work a week and a half after my op and I could have done with staying home longer. I had great days and then bad. I'm now over two months post op. I am the pregnant one who commented above. I think due to my pregnancy I've had a slower recovery. A friend of mine had an op two weeks after me and he was healed two weeks after his op. So each to their own. You can only take it day by day. I hope you are feeling better! And healing nicely.

Thanks, I got my surgery done exactly 10 days before. BM is really painful and not sure how long will it take to go. There is a mild discharge of pus I see all the time on the pad which I generally put on my Stuff. Just wanted to know how to kill the pain during BM. One more issue, I tend to feel pressure on my Anus/Rectum as it is not clear completely. Unfortunately due to severe pain, I can not strain

Thank you for you comments, I am 2.5 weeks after a similar surgery and was wondering what is the story with this never-ending drainage. You put my mind at rest that eventually it does end.
