It has been 17 days now from my operation. Several internal ones that would bleed during any BM removed. There is almost no pain now with a BM, and I put some TP in between the cheeks after due to a light brown discharge still. Every so often I will get the mucus type.

I stopped taking any softener almost a week ago, which really reduced the discharge between BM's. As gross as it sounds, farting was a loaded experience during that time.

Currently drinking a lot of water, and trying to eat as much fiber as possible. I also am taking Turmeric to try and reduce any swelling I still have. I am hoping for the discharge to stop within the next several months, but it is already better than what it use to be.

Thank you for this post. I am 2 weeks post and was concerned about drainage and pain at this point. I had an extensive surgery since the hem. was not in one area but rather all the way around. Tired of this recovery process and ready to be back to some semblance of normalcy.

Hi, I'm 10 weeks out and still have drainage if I cannot empty properly, which still happen often. I do sitz bath, apply aloe gel, do muscle exercise with breathing but still have pain and narrow anal. That I need to manually loosen 2x a day. I cannot describe how tired I'm and angry with myself for being so stupid to agree on the surgery. I'm just 37 so knowing that I ruined the rest of my life is pretty depressing as the rectum won't heal 100% and never be the same as before. This I learnt after I had the surgery cos the doctor didn't say anything about these post issues.

Thanks for posting that follow up. It's important to read this for people going through it. I'm 1-1/2 weeks post op and was worried that everyone had leakage for months or years even.

I just had surgery one month ago. It seems I was better at the three week mark than now. I have had several uncomfortable bowel movements that I hadn't had before despite fiber. The stools looked soft but sure hurt coming out.. Some itching and pain like i had before the surgery which has sent me into panic mode.
I also had one episode of clear discharge this week like a "shart" really. Had to change underwear.

I'm am so hoping by month two I never have to think about my butt again.

How are you now?

Folks, it does get better.
That first week is difficult to say it politely. By the end of my second week my BMS were much more reasonable. Also don't freak out if you have Tenesmus. That a new word I learned. It is the feeling that you need to pass stools, even though your bowels are already empty.

I came searching for information about the discharge, it is good to know that others have experienced it too. Yes, I too have been told it was normal by my doctor. It's just hard to find any mention of it during any reading about Grade IV hemorrhoidectomy.

For those that posted before myself, I appreciate it. I will admit to chuckling out loud because I truly understand what you were going through!

Just had one medium external hemmorhoid removed + lateral sphincterotomy 5 days ago. Pain is tolerable and BM has been easy. I recommend taking metamucil and prune juice and drink LOTS of water and fiber. Only problem i have right now is ive got pale pink/yellowish liquid drainage and changing my gauze pads 2-3x a day. No blood in poo. Is this normal?

I am 55 and had my surgery on December 6th of 22. I was told to expect 2 weeks of severe pain and return to normal at 6 weeks but mine lasted 4 weeks before I could get out of the bed. 6 percocet 10/325 and 2 morphine tablets a day wouldn't aleviate my pain. It is now February 15th of 23, 52 days and I still suffer from lingering pain from fissures and the pus discharge. My proctologist informed me that it could be and internal ulcer that is leaking and further surgery may be needed but can't guarantee that this will rectify my issue. I wish everyone the best dealing with this most painful of surgeries and that I finally heal completely with no other procedures needed.I recommend staying on stool softener and miralax and watching your food choices. If you feel that something isn't right, do not hesitate to follow up.
