Please don't discredit the fact that a mouth sore appearing to be a canker sore could very well be oral cancer. Early detection of oral cancers is important and it is never a bad thing to be cautious. Someone very close to me recently underwent a partial glossectomy and neck dissection after being diagnosed with tongue cancer. We thought the sores she had in her mouth for a year were canker sores as they seemed to flare up only sometimes. Even her doctor didn't think much of it and recommended many of the rinse solutions recommended by others here as she is a young non smoker.

If u use a whitening toothpaste or whitening strips those can cause inflamed taste buds as well. Maybe u should use a sensitive toothpaste or whitening

I cut them off with a purpose bought cutical trimmer. It does hurt but in short order the hurt is gone. And bleeding is minimal. Run cold water on your tongue for a few seconds and that will stop. I have done this for over 20yrs with no side effects or infections

I have been using nail clippers for years. Carefully cut off the taste bud and the pain stops immediately. I only get one every now and then and I have tried to wait for them to heal and nothing works. Only thing that relieves my pain is removal of the taste bud.

Yeah this is not correct. Enlarged tastebuds happen when they get tramatized: burning, spicy foods, or accidentally biting your tongue. And contrary to common belief, your tongue is not separated in sections.

I don't know what causes this, but I agree... They are very annoying and painful. I am in recovery from methamphetamines, I just had a recent relapse which triggered a 3 day binge. On the 4th day I noticed the spots, just figured they were some type of chemical burn from the Meth. I tried to ignore them but it was way too much. I took a razor blade and cut all of them off that were visible.. Word of advice, don't use a razor blade...lots of pain and lots of blood, I've been using mouthwash with peroxide..had I read this article before hand I might have just left them alone. Day 6 now and my mouth still feels like its on fire, hope it heals soon and I can get myself back to normal. I was clean from drugs for 5 years, this is a huge lesson for me and anybody else out there fighting you addiction.. Keep fighting this pain I'm experiencing was not worth the high but more importantly my sobriety!

I get these literally all the time! They're really annoying and hurt actually a lot, even if it's just 3 or 4 on my tongue. Haven't tried any healing methods yet, normally just let 'em go away themselves (no matter how bloody annoying it is!) but perhaps I should try something...
