I have to take birth control for my Endometriosis. I've been on about every pill out there including Yasmin. So far I've had great results with Yaz but I have been getting leg cramps. I'm not sure I like the leg cramps but overall this pill has been one of the best I've taken. We must remember all meds have serious side effects and can cause problems. Like everyone else the horror stories do scare me but what else can those of us that need the pill do? Does anyone know?

Most people who are having cramping hear about it being potassium but it is more commonly Magnesium. It especially should not be potassium on Yaz because it has the effect of a diuretic called "spironolactone" which causes you to lose water while retaining K (works by inhibiting the action of aldosterone on the Na/K pump in the kidney).

The ONLY side effects I have experienced thus far is leg cramps...but I started taking a potassium vitamin supplement instead because Yaz does deplete potassium.

NOOO ShaeDreams! Actually Yaz increase potassium... which can be bad if you are taking potassium supplements PLUS i'm sure there is potassium in whatever you eat too!! Having too much potassium in your body can lead to irregular heart beats and even cardiac arrest!!! I'd be careful with all that!!! Potassium is veryyy important to have in your diet, but too much of it (or anything) can be horrible to your health!

I've read many different things about YAZ. If you have a lot of emotional problems when you are on your period, then apparently it can settle that, however, if you do not then it could cause them.
I was on Alesse, it made me go crazy. Horrible depression, etc. I stopped that as of today. Whatever you do don't take that sh!t.!

I'm 24 and have been on BC since age 16. My doctor prescribed YAZ b/c I had severe PMS - actually PMDD (which is a disorder characterized by PMS symptoms, but much more severe, as in making irrational decisions - questioning my major in college, breaking up w/ my boyfriend of 3.5 years, crying for hours for no good reason, etc...just feeling nutso, not to mention suddenly, out of nowhere, being verrrry angry and irritable - it was like I could feel my blood pressure rising over nothing). So, my dr. prescribed YAZ b/c it is designed to treat the PMDD.
This is only the end of my second pack, so I can't say much. The first month was BAD. But, I figured it was a transition period b/w my old pill and YAZ. This month has been fine, emotionally.
Reading about all these horror stories - strokes, severe mood swings, etc. has be scared to death. But, I wonder, for those of you who had severe problems w/ YAZ, were you diagnosed w/ PMDD first? I wonder if it would have adverse side effects in those who didn't suffer from PMDD before getting on YAZ.
Just curious. Any other positive postings about YAZ? I'm hoping that if I don't have these scary side effects yet, that I won't begin to in the future. Any info. would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

OH, i forgot to mention, I have not had leg cramps, but I have noticed a wierd sensation in my legs, it's like an urge to stretch the muscle and point my toes out which is somehow relieving. It's not a cramp, just an overwhelming urge to stretch and flex my leg muscles. I know this must sound nuts. Should this concern me? Does anyone else have this problem? I didn't notice it until YAZ. The sensation itself does not bother me, but I wonder what causes it, and if that is something to be worried about, you know? Thanks!

OMG - All of those things happened to me! HORRID PANICK ATTACKS bothered me the most. Everything from breast pain to nausea to mood swings to extreme fatigue. I felt horrible on this pill... but I kept making myself take it thinking it wasn't the pills or it would get better.. NO it only got worse. Then I stopped taking it and I'm fine now. No more symptoms at all. This is as I called it "The Death Pill"!!! How can I stress it enough, this is the most misleading pill ever made. It's just a matter of time, I guarentee it will be off the market. Words cannot describe the terror for no reason out of nowhere. Just stop taking it

I forgot to mention the tremendous hairloss. Which is the reason I googled and found this board in the first place.

I only have been taking Yaz for a little over a week, and the headaches are horrendous!!! not to mention the nausea!!! I am definitly stopping taking them, I would rather deal with the mental breakdown before my periods than having deal with the headaches and nausea 24/7!!

I have been on Yaz going on three months now. The first periode I had after just spotting took almost two months to happen. When I finally had it I bleed so bad that I had to stay home and I was in tears from all the pain. But this month was so light and easy! I keep getting charley horses which wake me up and hurt so bad, I am going to ask the doctor about the Patasium. Other then small head achs I have not had as much problems as I have on all my other pills!

I've been on YAZ for a full year and have experienced most of the symptoms mentioned in this chain-- severe fatigue to the point of not physically being able to get out of bed; severe headaches/migraines that I get several days each week, seemingly for no reason; blurred vision; severely dry eyes; heart palpatations (sometimes it feels like my heart is literally inside my throat); issues with slurred speech (for no reason it seems) and also motor function problems (I seem to drop everything) and muscle spasms; rogue vomiting, etc. I literally feel bad most of the time. I, too, had no idea that all of this could be a result of the YAZ. When I pinpoint the first memory of each of these symptoms, they each go back to about 2-3 months after beginning YAZ. Some didn't start until 6 months into it, but none of it was happening before. With that being said, the YAZ doesn't help with my bloating at all. .. it helps a bit with the cramping but my cramps have been getting consistently worse over the last few months. It does help w/ shortening my periods. I, too, recently went to my doctor and she told me there was no way the YAZ could be causing this. I disagree and have taken myself off of it (a few days and counting). The most alarming symptom that I've had is substantial hair loss. I'm lucky to have a thick head of hair so people who see me don't realize it (unless i lift my hair up and show them how much it has thinned out. It's incredibly visible - i can't even pull my hair back into a ponytail any more b/c it looks so bad). It's been about 6 months since things REALLY got bad and I have just chocked it all up to stress and my crazy work schedule/ life. After talking to two colleagues who had horrible experiences w/ Yasmin (lboth ost half their heads of hair and when they stopped taking it the hair filled back in), I decided that the YAZ could be the problem. After all, it is the same brand and even thoug hit is a lower dosage, I find this very very suspicious. Has anyone else noticed hair loss while taking YAZ?

Just wanted to say that I am very happy with Yaz. It has helped my depression and my periods are lighter, sometimes less than two full days. I have been experiencing muscle cramps, though, and went to my doctor cause I was concerned about the potassium correlation. My doctor told me that Yaz can have a diuretic effect and that I was dehydrated and needed to take potassium and calcium supplements. He was going to change my pills to something else, but I begged him not to, so he just did some blood tests to verify!

I love the way Yaz has made me feel. I have not felt this normal and level-headed in my whole 27 years of life and will not stop taking it (at least till its the right time to have a baby).

I've always been a healthy young women. I was learning to be a personal trainer and make it a point to eat healthy. I started taking Yaz 6 months ago and I am miserable. I gave it a chance after being off birth control for several months. Nothing has changed in my life to make me feel so irritable, depressed, anxious, and excessively tired. I have tried to really pinpoint what is happening, and I can't help but feel that Yaz is the root of many things that have been going on with me physically and emotionally. I have experienced noticeable thining of my hair, uncontrollable appetite, nausea, excessive moodiness, more vaginal discharge, spotting, headaches that last for days behind my eyes, leg cramping, and burst blood vessels in my legs. I am having a very difficult time at work because I feel so fatigued. I've been to my doctor and though my bloodwork has been normal, I certainly feel abnormal. My boyfriend says that after 8 years, he's never seen me like this and says that I am complaining about being ill in some way everyday. I truly do not like Yaz and would not recommend it to anyone. I am going off this pill at the end of the month.
