Removal of Penile Implant

I am in my mid 30's and have an AMS 700 Series implant.
there are no reported infections its just that I had better erections with the prostoglandin erections. I am in good health and work out regularly. I do note that there is a loss of length when erect, even though I do note that the head of the penis does grow - I also note that I get 'half erections' where the penis feels more full and firm then when flaccid even when I don't activate the device. I have had the device for 6 years _ and I understand that it should last 10 years, so I figure it will have to be be replaced soon.
Now my question is that I would like to remove the device (I DO appreciate that this will present problems) but I would like to hear from anyone who has done this with some success. To be honest I was under the impression that the implant would increase length and girth. but what is more important is that there is some pain involved...even when I use the desensitizing cream provided by my doctor. I would even by happier in using Viagra/Cialis or preferably a prostroglandin injection.
Any advice would really be appreciated.

Mark, I am a 40 year old and also had the AMS 700 implant. I had the implant for 9 1/2 years before it needed to be replaced. The fluid somehow leaked out of the device. It did not cause any problems at that time other than it no longer worked. I chose not to have it replaced. I too had growth of and firmness without activating the device and some even when it was activated but much less. I previousely used the prostoglandin injections and had awsome results but after 2 years of injecting myself, my erections became more and more painful. Since the removal of the implant I have not been able to achieve an erection at all on my own as before but with the help once again of the prostoglandin injections I can achieve an erection but it is in no way as rigid as before the implant or even my own while I still had the implant and also does not last for long. I have tried all the Rx drugs but to no avail. Since the removal over 3 years ago I have had numerouse infections that for some reason I can not seem to get rid of or keep returning. I am conviced that these infections have something to do with the removal surgery as I still have some pain in the area where the tubes were at the base of my penis. The removal was, to me, a bit more painful than the installation of the device. The entire device was removed through a small incision under the penis at the base. Still after all this time, I have no regrets about not having it replaced; my only regret was getting it in the first place. Good luck with your decision whatever it may be.
